Right, if you don't mind just sitting on a short for a good while and don't have much time to put into the game, then that'll work great and has virtually zero risk, but the max someone can gain shorting a stock is +100% and that's if the company goes belly up which wont be the case here. So somewhere in the 90% range is the realistic max. Meanwhile playing the market yesterday and a little today I've managed to add 170% to my net worth (even though most of the stocks are down from when I started) and had a lot of fun doing it.

New players are coming on board every day, so speculation and added transactions are keeping prices up there.

It's only been about five days total now, so we'll see where the market goes from here. Very interesting activity so far.

it is just getting sillier by the minute. The lack of understanding of what the prices mean is killing it for me. I can't guess when folks will figure it out, if ever, and I refuse to buy something that is obviously overpriced. So it seems this game may not be for me ... at least until 6 months from now when everyone realizes how it works. (???)

I think most (at least a good amount) of people do understand what the prices mean but they are trying to be day-traders in order to maximize their portfolios NOW for the monthly prize. I think offering a monthly prize for that kind of action is pretty ridiculous and defeat the whole purpose of this game (to guess the correct sales number).

Anyway, like you being a long-term shorter I think I won't be able to enjoy this game until at least 6 months from now.

Well I know for a fact that some of the cars on the exchange have sales data for last month so when that data is released it could cause a slight correction. I know my Subie dealership sold at least one STI last month. I would bet that by the end of this month as sales data comes out some moderate correction of prices will occur and it will just get more sever as more sales data comes out and the percentage of fresh players to veteran players evens out.

There are a few things that could be done to lessen the volitality of the markets though.

1. Insert a commission cost into the game.
2. make the graphs frame of reference adjustable like Google finance. Right now you only see the daily price and that doesn't give me enough info to anticipate trends on an hourly basis. I just have to keep refreshing to try and figure out where the stock is going.

If they can't make the graphs adjustable then at the very least a daily high/low would be good.

I Think adding a commission is a really good idea!

Better charts by doctorlove

Definitely need better charts in terms of time frame, or at the least hourly prices in a data table that we can access. If we're expected to predict movements of these stocks, we need the data behind it!

Correction or Crash? by estreka

Man, the market really took a dump a couple hours ago. As LouisWei mentioned, I've been daytrading to get my intial cash up. I did get a solid 30% return before I switched to shorting. This was my first full day. Has it always been like this? Buy in the morning, short by midday?

At first there was a huge run-up in the market overall. People were excited to play and buy, buy, buy. It's been up and down since, but it's trended a little lower in the last couple days now that some domestic sales figures will be coming in on various vehicles already on sale.

The stock prices reflect more enthusiasm and day-trading than true market value; but you could say that about a lot of the real world stock market too.

We'll see where it goes from here.

Best,
