I shorted stock for the Lexus, but it did not come up correctly in the portfolio   this is what the portfolio said:   Lexus LX 570 (LX57) (5,000) $33.36 $166,796.50 03/04/2008 Short   and this is what the Lexus is at now:   Lexus LX 570 (LX57)Lexus LX 570 (LX57) CSX $66.82 (5000) CSX $165,900.00 CSX (-) $850.00 Replies to this message: louiswei (Mar 04, 2008 12:55 pm) mikedrud (Mar 04, 2008 1:00 pm)

Replying to: natew (Mar 04, 2008 12:23 pm) That looks about right, since you shorted when the LX57 was at $66.64 (100 - 33.36) and currently the stock is at $66.82 that means you've lost $0.18 per share (66.82 - 66.64) and since you hold 5000 share the total loss should be $900.

Replying to: natew (Mar 04, 2008 12:23 pm) natew,   louiswei has it right.   One way to check before the transaction is to look in your "My Stocks" section on your Portfolio page and see if your short is in the red or green. That is a quick test to see where that is at since your transaction went through. In that list, we provide the current value of that position, not what you purchased it at, so it's a good guide to see where you stand with all transactions you've made.   Mike CSX Game Supervisor

Here's my scenario: I short about 500 shares of the Corolla $500 a share. Then, I cover when the price falls to approx $400/share yet my portfolio shows a I am about $50k lighter, meaning the apparent profits are not going into the cash balance but being deducted from my portfolio. Can anyone explain??   The short: Toyota Corolla (CRLA) (488) $499.90 $243,950.00 03/04/2008 Short   The cover: Toyota Corolla (CRLA) 488 $394.06 $192,301.80 03/04/2008 Cover   So CRLA was trading at 500.10 when I shorted and my portfolio screen showed a net gain (the numbers were green) before I covered. Also, the price for CRLA didn't jump to 605.94. So what happened to the money?

Whenever I try to buy/sell/short something, half the time a thing comes up and says order information missing. I was trying to short a Corolla stock for 550 and then the thing came up. Can you help me out?
