Comparison Test, by Proxy: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro vs. 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 - The 2010 Camaro is a little harder to figure because Chevy won't release official specifications on the production car for some time. But it's not like the car is going to have a four-cylinder turbodiesel and a third row of seats. (more)

Platform sharing. Gotta love it. Car companies spread the cost of developing a crash structure or a suspension system or powertrain over a number of different models that theoretically will appeal to different paying customers. It's economies of scale, as the guys wearing the suits like to call it.

The Camaro will be built in Canada, not Australia. Australia is just where a lot of the testing and development is being done. But it will be built in Canada.

After reading Edmund's road tests , I suspect that Ford needn't go for the biggest gun in it's arsenal to lay down the SRT Challenger. The Shelby GT 500 can rest for now and leave the job up to the new Bullitt that weighs a whole lot less and costs a whole lot less than the Challenger SRT 8.

As far as the Camaro ,we'll just have to wait and see . BTW , I think the Challenger is an awesome looking vehicle- just wish Dodge had put more $$$$ out to do the interior the right way. They are certainly charging enough for the car !

A pretty good article marred by some pretty glaring errors. As mentioned above, assembly has always been slated for Oshawa, Canada. Also, the LS7 has no future. It will not be in the next Z06 nor the Camaro. It is being replaced by the LS8,9,A, etc. and the upcoming Gen Vs. The rest of the article was basically what I got reading between the lines of the G8/Charger comparo.

they were saying the camaro couldn't compete with the gt500. the ls3 camaro most certainly will. most tests of the ls3 corvette put it running a 12.5 in the 1/4. now look back at the ls2 gto, it ran a 13 flat in the 1/4. then the ls2 corvette ran a 12.7 or 12.8 in the 1/4. now i know the camaro will weigh less than a gto, it should since it has always been a lighter car. the gearing may some, but for the most part that is a good way to compare them i think. i believe the camaro will run a 12.8 or 12.9 and very well compete or ....hmm... beat? the shelby gt500, and for a lot less too. just my $.02

i keep hearing that everywhere about the LS7 but no proof. i heard they were definitely making the Z06 until 2009, and possibly even until the next generation of corvettes. will someone show me the GM announcement about this? or an article in a magazine and/or this website and/or another? or is this just a rumor?

Great time to launch 400+hp coupe with gas hitting $4/gallon. At least Ford reaped profits from Mustang in pre-katrina era.

Edmunds is just forgetting one thing: the Challenger looks so much better IMHO. Which means of course nothing to others. Hope they will make a convertible, too! Regarding high gas prices: A Smart for the week and a rumbling V-8 for the weekend.
