Replying to: cap232pilot1 (Feb 27, 2008 7:23 pm) they were saying the camaro couldn't compete with the gt500. the ls3 camaro most certainly will. most tests of the ls3 corvette put it running a 12.5 in the 1/4. now look back at the ls2 gto, it ran a 13 flat in the 1/4. then the ls2 corvette ran a 12.7 or 12.8 in the 1/4. now i know the camaro will weigh less than a gto, it should since it has always been a lighter car. the gearing may some, but for the most part that is a good way to compare them i think. i believe the camaro will run a 12.8 or 12.9 and very well compete or ....hmm... beat? the shelby gt500, and for a lot less too. just my $.02 Replies to this message: jae5 (Mar 11, 2008 11:05 am)

Edmunds is just forgetting one thing: the Challenger looks so much better IMHO. Which means of course nothing to others. Hope they will make a convertible, too! Replying to: tommy35ss (Feb 27, 2008 9:25 pm) You really can't compare / make a guess that the upcoming Camaro's weight will be less than the GTO (the rebadged Monaro and particularly the original). They were in different classes and served different markets, one a pony the other muscle. The new Camaro is closer to the Monaro/GTO than you may think, even in weight. The old Camaros were unit-body, starting with the first-gen (which shared the front sub-frame with the Chevy II/Nova and it's Poncho stable-mate). The Goat was a mid-size BOF car (unless you count that 73/74 POS Nova rebadge). I do think the new Camaro will be more robust than the previous gens; I just hope the ergonomics are vastly improved over the 3rd & 4th-gen; unless you were the driver the seating (especially front-passenger) in those things were horrendous!! Unfortunately all these cars are behemoths. But right now I'd take a Challenger Hemi first (you can keep the overpriced SRT8), Mustang second, Camaro last. But this may change - I need to get my fingers on the Mopar and the Chevy before final judgment
