We just bought a 2008 VUE Redline and love it, and we have 16 grandchildren. The small ones are held in great in car seats in the back. Best get the XE though if your looking for better mileage. Or, wait for the Greenline to arrive.

I recently purchased a honda accord, but I really wanted the chevy malibu. I have never bought a domestic car, but the Malibu is flat out amazing. I had a tight budget and get a really good deal on the accord so I bought the accord. The styling, engineering, and smooth lines are great. Every review I have read about the Malibu has been very good to excellent. Its on car and drivers top 10. Also, for 2009 the LS and LT1 will have the option of a 6 speed automatic. There should be some good deals on the Malibu since 2009's will start be produced in about 1 month from the forums I have read online. It is the hottest selling vehicle GM has and I think the resale value will be better even though you keep you cars for a long time.

I suggest you look at the Aura XE 3.5. I've put about 5K miles on mine so far on business trips and it sips gas like a 4 cylinder, but, offers decent performance as well. In the hilly state where I live, I've never had much luck with either fuel economy or longevity with a 4 cylinder mid-sizer.

I looked at both a Aura XR and a Malibu LTZ and I have ended up with a Malibu LT2 with the V6 performance package. Why?

1. Malibu LT gives you all the performance of the XR and LTZ but is thousands cheaper. This is expecially true with the XR since there is no negotiating on a Saturn.

2. Malibu has a nicer interior than the Aura. This is my opinion though I think the exterior of the Aura is more upscale looking and Saturns have more exclusivity.

3. The Chevy dealer is way more convenient and non-Saturn GM dealers will not do warranty work on an Aura.

Both cars are excellent though, I originally wanted to get the Aura XR but it boiled down to a $3000+ difference and all I really gave up was climate control, fog lights and maybe 1 or 2 other little things.

I'm shopping around for 4-cylinder, mid-size sedans and these are a few I'm considering. Would it be correct to say that all three of these cars share the same drivetrain/chassis and their differences are merely cosmetic? I did notice that the Aura has the 6-speed automatic while the Malibu offers it with one of their trim options and the G6 only has the 4-speed.

FWIW, I ended up buying the Aura over the Malibu. Ironically, my sister, who went test driving with me (my 2nd or 3rd time, lol) thought the Aura rode smoother. I was a bit surprised but it was nice having another opinion. I have driven a G6 as a rental & still like my Aura better. Can't tell you exactly why though. Again, it just seemed to ride smoother. I also loved the "no pressure" Saturn sales approach. Good luck with your decision.

6-speed is standard on all Aura's and the Malibu LTZ in 09 and available on the Malibu LT and 2LT. It's available on some G6 models for 09 but I am not sure which.

For 2009:

Aura - all models get the 6-speed standard
Malibu - 6-speed is STANDARD on 2LT and LTZ trims, and a standalone option on the 1LT
G6 - 6-speed is standard on the 3.6L GXP model and available as part of a new sports package on 2.4L base models

Sounds good.

The 6-speed is a nice transmission on my 3.6L Malibu. Shifts are butter smooth and it's is well worth the extra $$ if you get it as an option.

The 3 vehicles represent 3 generations of the basic chassis. I think if you drive all 3 you'll find that the chassis tuning and ride vary considerably between them. I choose the Aura because it drives like a big "Audi".
