Aura vs. Malibu vs. G6 by ponggod

I'm shopping around for 4-cylinder, mid-size sedans and these are a few I'm considering. Would it be correct to say that all three of these cars share the same drivetrain/chassis and their differences are merely cosmetic? I did notice that the Aura has the 6-speed automatic while the Malibu offers it with one of their trim options and the G6 only has the 4-speed.

FWIW, I ended up buying the Aura over the Malibu. Ironically, my sister, who went test driving with me (my 2nd or 3rd time, lol) thought the Aura rode smoother. I was a bit surprised but it was nice having another opinion. I have driven a G6 as a rental & still like my Aura better. Can't tell you exactly why though. Again, it just seemed to ride smoother. I also loved the "no pressure" Saturn sales approach. Good luck with your decision.

6-speed is standard on all Aura's and the Malibu LTZ in 09 and available on the Malibu LT and 2LT. It's available on some G6 models for 09 but I am not sure which.

For 2009:

Aura - all models get the 6-speed standard
Malibu - 6-speed is STANDARD on 2LT and LTZ trims, and a standalone option on the 1LT
G6 - 6-speed is standard on the 3.6L GXP model and available as part of a new sports package on 2.4L base models

Sounds good.

The 6-speed is a nice transmission on my 3.6L Malibu. Shifts are butter smooth and it's is well worth the extra $$ if you get it as an option.

The 3 vehicles represent 3 generations of the basic chassis. I think if you drive all 3 you'll find that the chassis tuning and ride vary considerably between them. I choose the Aura because it drives like a big "Audi".

I found the drive of the Aura and Malibu to be almost identical (V6 models anyway). I prefer the exterior of the Aura which is more Euro and seems more upscale. On the flip side, I prefer the interior of the Malibu, it's a little more finished and the color of the back lights is more pleasing to my eyes.

The G6 looks nice on the outside but the interior is a huge let down. GM should put a G8 like interior into the G6, it would go a long way to re-fresh the car.

Totally agree about the G6. One of the best looking mid-sized exteriors IMHO. Disastrous interior, however, and at least in short drives not pleasant at all to be in.

It's a typical old school GM interior a la Grand Prix.

GM could boost sales by 30% by putting a nice interior in the thing.

two choices when I was looking were the G6 and Malibu. The interior was the deciding factor for me on the Malibu, even though I could have saved about $2k with the G6.

It's a shame GM has let that interior go unchanged for 5 years. I do like the exterior of the G6 better, Definitely a more aggressive stance than the Malibu.
