I have a 2004 EX 3.5 V6 63,000 km Auto with a problem that is proving elusive to solve at the local Kia dealership where I live in the middle east. When driving in sportsmode in 2wd on tarmac the gearchange software will automatically upshift as the 6000rpm red line is approached. I gather from the owner's manual that this is what is supposed to happen. So far so good....Howvever, when driving in sand (lots of it out here) in 4LO, particulalry when trying to drive up sand dunes, the gearchange software will upshift as the revs approach 4000rpm resulting in loss of speed and power and by the time it allows you to change down a gear the car has ground to a halt. The local dealership seem completely at a loss as to why this is happening so I am reluctantly considering selling the car and buying one that will perform adequately in the dunes...Unless that is someone out there has had a similar problem an knows what the fix is....can anyone help? I'm afraid to speculate since this stuff is way over my head.   You may get some clues by browsing through the 4WD & AWD systems explained discussion while waiting for responses in here.   Just curious, do you have to air down a lot (any?) on your sand over there? Do you know if there is a simple override eg removing a fuse or something that would overcome the problem?   Re air down on sand...I generally run the front at 15psi to avoid tyre popping off the beads and about 12psi on the rear....I've tried all tyres at 12psi but still get the same problem occurring. The problem only seems to happen under heavy load (driving up dunes) and at higher speeds (ie more than about 20mph)...at low speed the car performs very well in the sand grip and manouverability wise.
