Comparison Test: 2008 Dodge Charger R/T vs. 2008 Pontiac G8 GT - You know, big, fast American cars. They're not hybrids, they don't run on biodiesel and they rumble and roar through dual exhausts. And they do the sort of epic burnouts that inspire Bruce Springsteen songs. (more)

Mate,
Has it got a Limited Slip Diff. The Mustang.
I saw the one they tested on TOP Gear I guess a year ago.
Didn't have one and was a bit of a handful.

The Mustang GT comes standard with a limited slip diff. At least, it did for the '05 redesign and earlier; don't know about now. I think it may have become optional on the '06 and later GTs.

Not sure why you guys are comparing the G8 GT v. the SRT8. A more fair comparo will be the G8 GXP v. the SRT8. Unfortunately Chrysler missed the boat in not even offering an MT for their top of the line performance car. The GXP will be available with a 6MT, and I think that is a BIG factor, showing they actually realize the car may be brought to the road course.

I'm looking at a G8 GT and so far, I'm liking it, and I'm a die-hard Japanese car fan.

there are dealers selling G8 at retail price or less. Many of them would be happy to arrange a courtesy-delivery at your local dealership.

“there are dealers selling G8 at retail price or less. Many of them would be happy to arrange a courtesy-delivery at your local dealership.”

Agreed.

When every Pontiac dealer near me was being unreasonable, unprofessional and \ or stupid, I arranged ( by email & a couple of quick telephone calls ) to buy what I wanted from a very small dealer just over 100 miles from where I live, northeast of Atlanta.

Checked BBB & asked about the dealer on-line.

Deal went very smoothly, including a “sight-unseen” trade-in valuation of my car – they met the value they set, since my car was exactly as described regarding condition, etc.

The current G8 allocation system & “tagging process” are of more concern to me – as the dealer will likely only receive 1 or 2 G8 GTs this year.

But I would not hesitate to buy from them again, if they can actually deliver the car. I may well buy a 2009 from that same dealer. $49 over invoice – and no ( inflated ) doc fee, etc.

If I bought another Corvette & did NOT have a trade, I would also not hesitate to buy a 1-way airline ticket to Atlantic City to buy from Kerbeck. To save thousands of dollars, I’d spend a couple of hundred. Their reputation is well established.

Anyway, I do not need a car today. Very few people actually do. So, I will wait until 2009s arrive – and see what the pricing ‘landscape’ looks like then. Sounds like end of Summer-ish.

My bet is that MAP will be GWTW by then.

They are selling them here in NJ at MSRP right now. As for availability? I drive around NJ for a living, and every dealer I've passed/stopped at has at least 4-8 G8s on the lot/showroom. So as for availability and price I'm not too worried.

Ray,

Thanks for all of your info. Real good to know there are other options! I would love to buy from a fair dealer and deliver it to the GreedMeCo/Bucksrus/Ponyup dealer by me!

I was at Kerbeck 3 weeks ago and they were brimming with real nice '08 and had my dream blue Z06 with the upgrade interior (to-die-for!)

I will change my ride in December. Hope you are right but if not I will try your tactic on the courtesy delivery. I'd love to see the face on the Finance Guy who is the ring leader!

Regards,
OW

THe G8 is boring looking just like the GTO.It has no performance looks to it.The roof line is typical family sedan. The back is plain jane looking. To me The front of the G8 and the rear should be on differant cars.At least the Charger looks like a muscle car.Once again Pontiac failed to have a car that looks like a performance car.Thats what killed the GTO.

That killed the GTO because it was marketed as a muscle car. I think the G8 looks worlds better than the Charger (except the faux hood scoops). It's NOT a muscle car, it's a sports sedan. To me, fake hood scoops, flying wing spoilers and lower body cladding scream BOY RACER, not performance. I grew out of that crap about 15 or 20 years ago. Give me a nice, clean, understated design any day. If I want to get attention, I'd buy a Vette or a Mustang or a Challenger. Actually, not a Challenger, no manual tranny!
