Volvo S60 a good buy? by lizian

I have two questions. My wife and I really like the Volvo S60. Our mechanic says Volvo parts are expensive. Do you agree with this, and have you experienced the need for much repair work, or have you been impressed with its reliability?

Secondly, is there much of a difference between the 2002 and 2004 S60 engines?

Thanks for your time and comments.

oil change cost about $45 at the dealership. A little less with a coupon.
Just got front brake pads changed for $240 at dealership after 39,000 miles.
Just replaced radiator for the SECOND time in two years. It was under warranty and didn't cost me anything.

Car drives great. Seats are comfortable. In my opinion.... car is finicky. Turning radius SUCK.

Good luck.

Volvo S60 is one great car; safety, handling, comfort, and of course styling. If quality, reliability, cost of maintenance and customer service matter to you, then DO NOT buy the Volvo. Check the web, their quality is terrible and Volvo will not extend warranty on KNOWN issues like premature transmission failures, bulbs that burn out, and suspension components that break every 24 months.

sorry. This was my second Volvo and hoped to be a life long customer. As a knowledgeable mechanic and tech, my criticism is credible. I still drive our S60, but it will be my last Volvo.

I had an 2006 until this past weekend. As far as safey, EXCELLENT. I was hit from behind going 70mph on the interstate by a van traveling 80+mph I spun into an SUV and then spun off the road - nobody hurt thankfully. I never rolled, had no injuries at all. My car looked pretty good considering. I spun off the road in it in the winter going 60 and it handled great, no damage. I had 102,000 miles on it. I replaced 2 spark plugs at 95K miles at 200$ and brake pad in the front( I think 400$) but not sure. Aside form that I had no problems, I commuted daily 2 hours round trip. This car certainly was worth it for me.

If it is a good buy, should I get extended warranty?
If extended warranty, any recommendations?

Thx,
Duke
