I and everyone I know in the club i am in bought the xB for its size, room, and fun styling. Being able to customize it also was a big draw. Zero to 60 in 7 seconds never crossed my mind.11 seconds is fine. Americans are schizophrenic about 0-60 times anyway. want it but use it 2% of the time. The gen2 xB is nothing like the original. Basically Toyota listened to a totally different group of people when they brought this second xB to the market. When I have to replace my 2006 xB it will not be with current Scion. To large, to bland, to main stream mom and dad car. The Japanese Cube3 is much closer to the first gen xB. Hopefully Nissan will not look at the current corolla based xB when it designs the Cube for America. The 1.8 versa engine would be large enough. 110-120 hp is really all that is needed. I'm looking forward to the Cube coming to America. If it is styled like the current cube and has the cool options they will have a sale with me. Replying to: cody20 (Feb 22, 2008 6:41 am) I agree with KarenS 100%, Scion abandoned me when they released the second gen xB. The new car is an insult to the quirkiness of the original. In terms of market segment and sales, I would wager a bet that the average age of owners has climbed dramatically for the xB and demand is down overall compared to the launch of the original xB. To me these small B segment cars are about function, style, and economy. I’m a tuner at heart, I wanted a cheap car that I could change up and really make unique. To date I’ve invested over $20,000 in aftermarket parts for my first gen xB and now as time draws near for me to sell it and start a new project what car has Scion, Toyota or Lexus given me to work with. NOTHING! I’m not starting a family so I don’t need a people mover. I use my car for commuting, going out with friends and road trips. I think with basic tuner improvements to the Cube it would be a real easy choice for me. Since I know there is already a very well developed tuner market in Japan for the car, it would be easy to get a nice set of flush fitment wheels, some aftermarket suspension, etc. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing even a smaller engine, possibly a little turbo diesel or something else that would inspire more tuning for those who want it and more efficiency for those who don’t. Furthermore I think Josh Jacquot is an idiot, though I respect his dissenting opinion, I couldn’t disagree with him more. Market diversity is the key here, not everyone wants to drive a damn Camry or Escalade. Car companies should really stop trying to please everyone with every car and take the risk to build some cars that really only serve a small market segment. Scion did it right when they started, cheap car, really reasonable standard features, and no BS. Where is the Scion of 2004 now? Gone…as is Jim Farley the man with the vision that made what Scion was possible. Hopefully the Nissan Cube or Kia Soul will renew my spirit for B segment in the US market. I wish Toyota would let Scion get back on track with what it should be. Replying to: thefoth (Feb 22, 2008 4:53 pm) I know the xB faithful were greatly disappointed, but the old car was slow, rough riding, and lacking in safety equipment. Not an option for me. I'm on the verge of buying an '08, it fills all my needs while getting adequate mpgs with reasonable freeway ability and safety. Motor Week awarded their car of the year award, they thought so highly of it. I plan on going the TRD route with springs, shocks, struts, rear sway bar, and front strut tower bar, combined with good 16" tires. Should be fun. It was totally unnecessary for Toyota to make it so much larger and put in such a larger, more power engine. This is what is wrong with Americans. You people can't think beyond the length of your own arms. How retarded is it for Toyota to have made the new xB 400lbs heavier than the outgoing one? How freaking stupid.

I hate how the door swings out, that will be tough for city folks to load/unload from street parking spots 3. Bench seats, no way! 4. I assume (hope) they will have stability control and side air bags etc. We may be driving smaller but I don't want to give up on safety especially since the other big things on the highway won't vanish overnight. Good luck to them when the 'Americanize' it for the US market. Competition is always good but they will have to do more changes to compete against the established Scion/Honda models.

The gold is way too loud and obnoxious and to drive home the point, they added fugly trim of the same color inside. If only they would wise up and offer the sunroof in all the xBs, then I'd have a blackberry crush one in my driveway.

I was going to buy a Scion xB, then Scion made the major mistake of totally changing the car into a gas guzzler. The original xB had already become a classic and phenom, much like the original VW Beattle in the 1950's. The new xB is an ugly monster than drinks too much gasoline. Toyota made the mistake of listening to the people who didn't buy the car while ignoring those who did. The Cube actually came first in Japan and was copied by Toyota with the xB. The cube will have a practical bench seat, better visibility, a bit more power and better gas mileage than the original xB. The Cube is also very practical for seniors who will find it easier to get in and out of than a standard car. I can't wait to buy one, but I will. Nissan will have my deposit as soon as they start taking orders. I was reluctantly going to buy a Honda Fit, until my son told me about the Cube. I am sold already. Note, the Cube that will be sold in America will have the 1,7 ltr Versa engine rather than the 1.4 ltr engine in the article. Replies to this message: anderlan (Jul 04, 2008 11:18 am)
