"How can I protect or remedy the paint from rock chips? Unfortunately, as I was driving the car home from the dealership (!), it suffered a couple of rock chips so there are two little chips in the paint on the hood. What are my options for fixing/filling these? "

Patti, I faced the same problem on my '07 Mazdaspeed 3. To address it, I used a product from 3M Corporation called Scotchgard Paint Protection Film. Basically, it is a thin, tough sheet of clear polyurethane film that sticks to vulnerable surfaces, like the hood. It works great, but professional installation is really the best way to go with it.

You can learn more about this stuff on the Web, including certified installers in your area, at www.3M.com/PaintProtectionFilm.

Hope this helps!

Hi, what do you guys recommend for the plastic (? i think it is) trim on the side doors windows as well as the other trims on the outside; i what to keep it nice & black and protected from fading from the sun. Thank you in advance!

303 Protectant is good. Wurth and Meguiars also make some good products.

Metallic paint car care by missyc1

This is my first metallic painted car. (Mazda3 s Touring in Phantom Blue Mica) I want to keep it looking as beautiful as the day I drove it off the lot.

Does anyone know if there are any "DO'S and DON'TS for cars of such color? Certain type of soap, wax, interior cleaners or anything else you can suggest.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Another great source of information (whether you buy their products or not) is Zaino. This is a mail-order only source of high end synthetic polishes and accessories. You can easily spend an hour just researching products and techniques. A couple of their themes are: first treatment must be stripped down to the clear coat, removing all embedded impurities and foreign objects stuck in the clear coat. This means first washing with a high detergent soap, then clay barring, then multiple coats of polish followed by sealer or glaze. I've used it and it really works but it takes one whole weekend to get the car prepped and first coats of polish applied. However, once you have it protected with this system, it is very easy to maintain. You hand wash with low-detergent soap then wipe down with detailer spray and it looks like you just polished it. I have a black mica MS3 which is probably the hardest color to keep looking nice and this system works great.
