A person at my work said his mechanic told him not to run anything but regular unleaded or he would damage his cadilac converter.
I told him I never heard of any vehicles that would damage there engine by putting 92 octane super unleaded in their vehicle. I have heard some vehicles require 92 octane, anything lower they will start ping-ing and will then get damaged, not the other way around.
Now this guy has a couple others at work believing him because his manual says the vehicle was designed for reg. unleaded.
Is this guy an idiot for saying this vehicle will only run on reg unleaded or am I thick for not believing him.

I'm sure I missed a few other angles on the regular/unleaded debate.
Then there's that whole "excessive idling can clog your cats" discussion out there too. Lots of fodder for bar bets, lol.
