Got a problem with the sliding door on my '92 Safari... The problem lies with the pin that holds the spring-loaded latch mechanism in place at the back of the door. There's nothing to keep that pin from working its way out from the bottom up and today it popped right out. I don't know if something is missing(?). That's the way it was when I bought the van. Replying to: bodrey (Feb 13, 2008 1:26 pm) My previous '95 Safari van had a simular problem with its sliding door pin. Its door pin kept vibrating up, out of its bottom hole and the door latched didn't work properly. To resolve, I took a cordless drill with small bit and drilled a horizontal hole across it. Then, I slipped a cotter pin into it, then bend its ends over. If I remember correctly, I had to clamp the end of the pin with a small pair of vise grips - to stop it from spinning - while I drilled a small hole across it. After that trick, its pin never vibrated up and out again. This trick might work for you too. Note: As as suggestion... Buy the very small cotter pin first. With the item in hand, one can then determine the proper drill bit size to use. The smaller the cotter pin, the better. .
