What is this discussion about? Pontiac G8, Sedan

First Look: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT - There wouldn't be much to talk about if the G8 was just another V6-powered family sedan, so Pontiac did itself a favor and made sure that a V8 is on the options list. If you order the big engine, it's called the G8 GT. (more)

Full Test: 2008 Pontiac G8 GT - Bottom Line: This is the Pontiac we've all been waiting for. (more)

Drove the GT yesterday and was totally impressed with the handling and overall performance of this Pontiac. I am looking to purchase one in the blue grey with black interior, loaded. $33,000 is the list and I would pay invoice, but not over. This is a lot of car for the money.

Huh. Well that seems quite contradictory. If it is alot of car for the money, why would you not pay over invoice?
Unless you meant you wouldn't pay over list/sticker/MSRP, which is quite different than invoice.

I wouldn't pay over invoice for it either. If I decide to get a G8GT, I will likely get one in Dec for about $27k including tax for a loaded G8 GT. They are sitting on the lots here in the northeast and with gas prices up at $4+ and winter on it's way, these RWD V8s will not move, so why pay more than you have to for one?

I agree, if you are willing to wait.

But the comment I was responding to made it sound more like "I won't pay over invoice no matter what."
I mean, what IF the car continues to sell for invoice+? Does that mean you would never buy one? Because that is what the poster's comment made it sound like to me.

I wouldn't pay over invoice for a G8 either. It's an american car and the resale is never stellar, so might as well get as much off the top as possible.

That's what I said about the then-new Mustang GT. I was very surprised to see how long they were able to hold up the purchase price on those.

I am actually considering a used E500 4-matic or E550 4-matic instead of the G8, while a few $ more, I think in the long run it may serve me better.

Can't blame ya.
Can get it as a wagon, too.
We were pondering that for my wife at one point.

E500 4-matics can be had in the $32-36k range with 10-20k miles. They don't have 360hp of the G8 but my guess is they will ride better and have a higher resale down the line. Also AWD makes it a year-round car rather than a 3-season car.

I bought a new g8 gt 9 months ago the orange one, paid 32000, tried to trade in the other day with 13000 miles and looked up the values, clean trade is 19000 and retail is 24000. Losing 10000 in one year is unacceptable to my standards. I would definatly not recommend buying this car new unless you just are in to losing a lot of money.
