Inspection Coming Up by art234

I am having my M inspected Friday morning. It has a couple of small dings (smaller than a quarter) and the only thing is two marks on the front bumper. I wonder if I should let them be or get that part of the bumper sprayed.

The car is 5K under miles, and otherwise fine. Anyone have any idea how picky these guys really are?

I also won't mention the litigation I am pursuing against Nissan/Infiniti for the $1300 they promised me and later reneged on.

If a ding is a bit smaller than a quarter in size, it is not a small ding - it is a small damage, but a big ding for sure - unless it is way smaller than a quarter - like a quarter inch in diameter or smaller. I guess it depends on your dealer and how picky they are. It will definitely hurt the resale value, then they will charge you extra. It also depends on if the paint is damaged or not and where those dings are located.

As far as the paint chip on the front bumper, I would just get the touch up paint from Infiniti and paint it up and it should be fine.

Well Infiniti's rep came yesterday and inspected the M from hell. The only thing they found chargeable was a scraped wheel ($140), which is absolutely scraped. Ironically I only did it 2 weeks ago leaving JFK airport...

I was up front with the guy and showed him everything on the car--we had a couple of laughs and he gave me my printed copy .. I consider myself pretty lucky.

On a brighter note, it appears my new car may be in up to 10 days earlier than planned.....which is great news....meaning I will be rid of the M even sooner !!!

Not bad....sounds like they pissed off so many people that they are changing their tactics.

Once you get the invoice for the wheel, call them up and tell them that many people complain that the rim sticks out further than the tire and if you just glance a curb, the tire does not protect it.

They'll credit you the 140.00

Does anyone know if Infiniti is offering, or is planning to offer a discount off the buyout at lease end? I understand that in November of 08 they were offering $6K off the residual for lessees who stepped up to buy.

Last I Heard--nothing by art234

The last I heard, was they are sticking to residual, which is ridiculous, since the numbers are totally inflated.

My residual was $27K, the car is going back any week now (waiting for my new car to come in-2010 Audi A4), and they didn't want to hear it when I asked (I had no intention, just asked). The same car with similar miles is going around $15-$16K at the auction. My guess is that they have some kind of residual insurance which makes up for losses at auction but not selling to private parties....

The large number of 06 M's is coming back to bite them in the short term........and from what I have seen Infiniti in general is doing very poorly now.

Well, the $16k auction price was the lowest when back in Nov. '08 and now, the average auction price is around $23 - 24k for a well equipped M45. If you go on autotrader.com, it is very rare that you can find one on sale for less than $26k that is in decent shape with 40k miles.

The used car market is picking up and one of my friend was trying to get a '06 M45 for $25k and the only one he can find within 100 miles has 68k miles on it. So, I believe it worth $27k if you have kept the maintenance on the car, knowing it has been taken care of and you like the car.

M35x not M45 by art234

Mine was an M35x not an M45, and while prices may be up, they will be offset shortly by a glut of these cars coming onto the market. No way they will EVER be worth $27K.

That said, mine was maintained immaculately, but still has powertrain and vibration issues which remain unresolved to this day. Furthermore Nissan/Infiniti renegged on a compensation offer, which is now being handled by my attorney (I am NOT letting them get away with not reimbursing me $1300).

At the end of the day, Infiniti has lost a customer for good, and I am going out of my way to let people know that they are 1. incompetent at repair and 2. they are dishonorable.

I just can't wait for my Audi.......

I feel the same way you do about the car.

If they gave me the car for 16k, I'd still return it!
