Interesting. I sat in an Aveo for the first time a few weeks ago and my first impression of the interior was, Wow, these seats are comfortable.

I've seen some reviews that don't like the seats. Took my 08 Sedan on a road trip from Cleveland to Dayton 2 weeks ago (first time I've sat in it for over 4 hours straight) and have to say I like them quite a bit. They're not plush, but they are supportive. The lumbar support is great. Glad I made the choice I did.

BTW, some sites are posting specs on the 09. Looks like the same engine and tranny. Only real feature on the 09 I could see that's not available on the 08 is On-Star. And it seems the SVM trim on the Aveo 5 is no longer available. No great loss there unless you really want something with no AC.

Supporting Aveo5's responsive and economical driving experience is a new, Ecotec 1.6L DOHC four-cylinder powertrain. The sophisticated engine uses Dual Continuous Variable Cam Phasing - two continuously adjustable camshafts - to optimize the charge cycle for fuel economy and performance. As a result, this 16-valve DOHC engine delivers more horsepower than the previous engine, with ratings of 107 horsepower (80 kw)* and 106 lb.-ft. of torque (143 Nm)*, and nearly 8-percent improved fuel efficiency when compared to the previous Aveo5 model.

The new, 1.6L engine features additional technology highlights to improve fuel economy, quality, reliability and durability, including:

    * New four-in-one sheet metal exhaust manifold, with integrated catalytic converter and secondary underfloor catalytic converter
    * Engine oil cooler and piston oil squirters
    * New GM-corporate engine control system
    * Electronically controlled thermostat
    * Oil Life Monitoring System

Additionally, the engine is tuned for quieter performance, with a more pleasing sound during acceleration.

I'm also waiting for the 2009 however I took the delivery of a 2008 SVM on Christmas eve day (4k miles as of mid Apr now).. it was too good to let it pass as I got it for $6000 out of the door.

I bought this car just because of the incentives and MPG as my car was an 2005 Audi S4 at that moment (I just got rid of the Audi this past weekend)

Right now I'm getting about 30mpg (and I drive hard) which makes me happy to put gas once a week at the most.

From my point of view, interior on this model is very bland, seats are not bad, but lack lateral support, I find the stick about an inch too low for my taste, but is not a deal breaker, i think that is a spacious car and the cup holders are useful (better than the Audi ones trust me). Cornering with this car is just fun, it's balanced with a decent amount of grip in stock form, it does have body roll, nothing to be that concerned, I love the fact that you can hit the brake with one foot and the gas with the other at the same time and the car's computer won't stall it. I can see that a few mods can make this car a very fun commuter (stiffer suspension and a bit wider and grippier tires, that's it).

By the way.. I've been reading in many places that the SVM comes with no A/C... Mine has it, and it was not extra-added by the dealer, actually the heater is a fast performer. I also saw some pics of some 08 SVM with side black door moldings.. mine does not have them (thank God).

Overall I'm quite happy with this car as a commuter, 4th and 5th are good cruisers, cornering is a blast, seats are ok (again my bar was an performance Audi). Since I got it so cheap, I'm looking forward to trade in this one and get an 09 for almost nothing.

I have read those specs already including the 8% better mpg which is good, but why isn't the posted mpg in the article different then what is current? Is this really a new engine or just a modified version? I see they say it has dual continuous variable camshaft phasing but what does it have now? They used to call it an E-Tec engine now its an official Ecotec. Hopefully this engine lives up to the Ecotec level of arguably best in class engines.

Some improvements that I noticed which are nice are the oil monitoring system and the steering wheel audio controls with the LT model, tire pressure monitoring system, XM radio, and sportier front end appearance to name a few.

The new Aveo 5 is going to be pretty sweet. I had an 05 Aveo Sedan, and though I liked it, I wasn't impressed when they changed the Sedan look in 07, and not the 5. I just picked up an 08 yesterday, traded the 05 for it,

I still cant decide on the 2008 or 2009. that 1000 cash rabate is not easy to pass up.
also driving my 99 mulibu with no ac is no fun. But i only drive 60 miles a week since work and shopping are so close. this is the last week of the rebate i think.

I contacted Chevy and they said they won't start building the 2009 Aveo 5s until May 26th and it would be at least 6 or 7weeks (probably 8 weeks) after that (if there are no delays) before they are in dealers hands. So it looks like it will be mid July to the first of August before we see them.
