Rust on rims? by jezah

I have a 2005 Aveo and attached is a picture of one of my wheels. All 4 of them look like this. They've been getting these big brown streaks on them. The little brown rusty lines are from where the stock wheel cover dug in (must've been on too tight?) But what am I to do about these smears? Is this rust as well? Anyone else have this problem on their wheels? If so, how do I prevent it or fix it? What I'd like to do is restore them to a nice black color again the way it came from the dealer. Can I just spraypaint over this with black paint? Anyone with knowledge on this subject, please give me advice. The whole look of my car is ruined by these ugly wheels.

(And please dont tell me to buy full-coverage hubcaps. I finally found a set that I like and would like to have them on my car without brown streaky wheels showing underneith)

If it doesn't come off and you have to paint them use fine sand paper on the whole wheel, mask off the tires and surrounding body panels and spray primer them first, lightly sand again and then spray paint. If you just paint them it probably won't last long and may peel. You can also remove them and sand and spray them else where to avoid the over-spray on the car panels.

rust on interior of rims causing air leaking from tires by harryruth

I have a 2005 Lincoln Towncar that after sitting in garage for 10 days had 2 flat tires & 1 very low on air. Tire repair shop found no problem with tires, but after removing the three tires from the rim, found that all the rims had rusted/oxidized on the interior of rim (about 4 inch circle) next to the lip where the tire butts up to make and seal. The rust/oxididation caused the tires to lose its complete seal and develop a slow leak. What is a complete fix for this problem ????? The tire shop wire brushed the rust/oxidation and put bead sealant on the rim, but thought this was a temporary fix only. Does anyone know what a permanent fix would be??? Is this a factory defect ??? Thanks in advance for your help.
