That's silly. Cash should have nothing to do with it. The dealer gets their money any which way you slice it. If you were to go to your credit union and get a loan for the car and deliver the check to the dealer, that is the same as paying them cash.

It's possible that IFS has low APR financing available (0.9%?) that wouldn't be compatible with the $5K cash back...
But, certainly, if you provided your own financing, you could take advantage of it..
Only Volvo has weird rules like that...

It's not applicable on a lease but is on a financed car. You wont get the low APR if you get the $5,000 but you can still finance it anywhere you want. I did finance mine at the dealer. He went a little under my credit union.

Just got an EX35 Journey AWD in Seattle area. Sharing my price paid with all of you. I managed to knock down $9000 from MSRP. I feel I got a great deal.
Options:
Roof Rails
Prem Pkg
Lux Style Pkg
NAV Pkg
Wood Trim
Splash Guard
Cargo Area Protector
Cross Bar
Wheel Lock
MSRP: $44,375
Paid: $39,125 out the door (including tax and all the goodies)
Please beware that the dealer try to sneak in B&O (Business and Operation) tax and having me pay for this but this is in fact something that the dealer has to pay. If you see this tax added to your price you should ask the dealer to waive it!

Got 5.3% from Bank of America. The deal was either $5000 off or 0% APR.

Yes. Bought a 2008 AWD Journey with Premium Package, Navigation, Wood Trim, etc. in mid-December. Sticker was $43,125. I paid Invoice ($39,384), less $5,500 rebate, no trade, for a total out of pocket of $33,884. That does not include tax or license. Sold my trade on eBay to keep the transaction for the car as clean as possible. Sales tax and title application added to that of course, but that is beyond the dealership's control. I think the $5,500 rebate expired on 12/31/08.

I think you math is a bit off. If MSRP was $44,375 and you paid $39,125 that's $5,250, not $9,000 unless Washington has one heck of a sales tax!

msticks, my math is correct!!! Sales tax in Washington is 9%. What I am trying to tell all of you is I got the car for $35,375 (not including tax and registration etc.) and hope this will help your negotiation. Math is not the issue here!!! State tax and registration varies in each state. You can do you own math.

So the $5,000 rebate ended on 12/31/08 and no more deal to be had for 2008?
