I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander, Limited and want to know how strict company is with regards to wear and tear on the vehicle. All 4 tires are bald but I have only 4 weeks before residual is paid off and need to turn in. The requirement they say is 2/32nds for the tread which mine is far below - they're bald) So I am wondering if anyone knows if they do charge you for "wear and tear" beyond the ordinary, such as old tires or what your experience has been at turn in time.

I am an Insurance Adjuster and there are a few common accidents, driver hitting the accelerator rather than brake being one of them. The best I ever saw was an elderly woman who accidentally drove forward, hitting the accelerator rather than brake, then in a panic, shoved transmission into reverse whilst executing a reverse U Turn into adjoining property and then, in a further panicked attempt to rectify the situation, put the car back into drive and rammed a third house. The car was not well and she achieved a spectacular damage toll on three homes. I have just dealt with a claim where a driver did the same thing, jumped a kerb, demolished a bus shelter (fortunately just after the bus collected ten passengers who had been standing there) and came to rest against another shelter. For odd reasons, there were witnesses who could confirm actual sequence of events (door open and foot position visible and no brake lights showed), but driver was adamant that he hit the brake. Oddly, it never happens with manual transmission cars, I suspect because the need to co-ordinate clutch and accelerator requires more concentration. Not so cheers Graham

It has happened to me twice over, say, the past 8-10 years and both times it had to with the floor mat having slipped forward, over the gas pedal but behind the brake, the harder you pressed on the brake pedal..... No accidents, just heart in throat panic.... |
