They've got mostly all of the problems of the previous models that you've probably already read about...

That being said...they're not the best minivans...they're also not the worst...I have a 2000 and we've had pretty good luck with it...stuff breaks, you fix it and you move on down the road...they probably drive the best of all of the domestic minivans in my opinion...I drove them all at the time when we bought it...peppy acceleration and a nice tight road feel. They also have plenty of rattles and suffer from an assortment of electrical foibles. The great thing is that they've depreciated like a falling meteor so you can get a pretty good used one for not a lot of money. I think by 04 they had ironed out the intake manifold issue but take a close look at the condition of the antifreeze & oil to be sure that you're not mixing them inside the motor.

They're tough to work on since they shoehorned so much under the hood so expect to pay a little extra for mechanical repairs than you're used to...expect good gas mileage though...we get about 18 in around town driving and in the mid 20s on the highway...not bad for a big minivan.

All in all, I think you can do a lot worse. Its a pretty solid package IMO even with its faults. One review I read when we were looking at ours was pretty telling...it went something like this: " While the Venture has faults, few of them will leave you stranded at the side of the road unlike other minivans in its class" 'nuff said...

Good Luck,
John

No changes in body metal although they really need to go to fiberglass. They are made to rust away after 5 or 6 years. (Part of the secret plan to boost the economy per George Bush)

I read on internet about head gasket and ac problem in venture which is mostly a costly work. But if these type of problem are common everywhere like in Dodge, Ford, etc then there may be no good choice in used mini vans. If there is any, do you have a recommendation.

Every vehicle, new or used, domestic or import, big or small, has issues, some better, some worse...none are perfect. You can't buy any car and expect it not to need some kind of repair because if you do you'll be sadly disappointed...

The Venture is a pretty good van... I think they're overall a pretty good buy as you can pick them up used for a reasonable price. I think there's a little luck involved too...I knew a guy who had a slant 6 Chrysler that was a lemon and there are thousands of internet pages which will tell you that they're bulletproof and don't even need much oil to keep running. I recently read about a guy who had 500,000 miles on his Chevy pickup, original motor and trans...go figure

Look at a bunch of them, decide which you'd buy based upon condition and affordability and have your mechanic check it out before you buy. There are plenty of good deals on good minivans out there made by GM and all the rest too. Buyers are in the driver's seat (so to speak) because the car market is currently so slow so you have some leverage with price right now...

Good Luck,
John

A venture is a good van. I'm on my second Venture van now. The first was a 1998 that I finally sold to a relative when it had about 277,000 miles on it. They are still driving it today. I presently own a 2002 with "only" about 205,000 miles on it.
I've had 7 Chevy's over the past 20 years and I've kept every one of them in good running order until they passed the 250,000 mile mark. I've either traded them in or sold them outright, but every one of them was still fully operational and drivable when I sold them.
It's already been said that every single vehicle will have it's own individual set of problems. There is no getting around that. But through all the years I've been driving and all the vehicles I've owned, I've found that there's one unwavering fact of life. You will only get out of a vehicle exactly what you put into it. If you take care of it, meaning regular oil changes, lubes, regular maintenance, etc., it will take care of you. But if you run it for all it's worth, like you don't care about it and you want to break it, you will get your wish.

hello me and my family recently found a 2002 Chevy venture with 88,000 miles that we all really liked. after we got back i looked up info on the car and found all the stuff about the gaskets and other problems. so i was wondering that if you put good quality gaskets in and avoid that Dex cool stuff if that would solve the whole gasket thing. because it was a really nice van that we would love to own. also how often do these gaskets go out i can't seem to find any consistency some people make it sound like its almost every month.

According to our service mgr. at the Chevy dealer we use, 2002 was the year the improved gaskets started. He said they still see the problem even with the new gaskets, but at a much less rate. I think your still suppose to use the dexcool stuff though. I think the trick is to change it sooner then they say. If your worried it about it see if you can take it to a Chevy dealer and have them look at it, also they can run the vin number to see if it's been already done in the past.
