Take into consideration how much you would get on tradein or private sale for either vehicle.

It should be clear to you which car is better to keep first the Toyota did not take money out your pocket for parts yet, but the Malibu which is newer did, so you see Toyota has a good rep and it shows, GM has a bad rep and it shows too, Honda has also a good rep good choice.

Thanks for the input so far...the responses have been mixed, so I'm eager to see what the majority will favor after more responses.

Just anecdotally, we have a '99 Camry with 127000 miles. Needed new brakes and tires but that has been it for the 3 years we have owned it so far. It's really a champ and gets great gas mileage too. It's a hard call, but I'd be partial to the Camry.

Camry v. Bu by csandste

I have an 05 Maxx which I love, so I'm not a Chevy hater. Drove the 97+ 'Bu on one occasion as a rental car. It had been driven hard and put away wet so that may have influenced things. I was struck by how uncomfortable that car was. Seemed to have much less space than my 01 Hyundai Elantra. Assume it's got the 3.1 engine. Didn't that have manifold problems?

With the Camry, (from memory), it seems like the I-4 had good durability and the six was the sludgemaster (or did that come earlier). If I'm right in my recollections, I think I'd favor the Camry.

Haven't checked tire sizes, assume they're different. If not, think about swapping the tires.

Id prob keep the camry, you could prob sell it right now for as much as the bu...which means the bu will depreciate faster....sel it now while the mileage is right, if you keep it and run 127 k miles like the camry... nobody will buy it...I dont know many people willing to buy an american car with 100k plus miles... whereas a camry... or accord.. is good for 250 and people know that.

good luck

Another option would be to sell both of the car and purchase one newer used car with less miles(preferrably certified) with the money from the sales.

Great advice so far...what do others think? by amazingtom

Thanks for all of the opinions and advice so far...it is helping us a lot. If both cars had similar miles it would be an easy decision, but with these particular mile comparisons, it's a tough call! It certainly is mixed from person to person.

My mechanic said he's keep the car with the lower miles regardless of the reputations, which was similar to first response here by ls6454.

It seems out of the 7 or so responses so far, the Camry is favored.

My wife and I really love the latest suggestion to sell both cars and buy a "newer" used car. We just might do that!

Thanks, and please keep the opinions coming...this is turning out to be an interesting poll.

It's good to go with your Mechanic.
It's only natural that the car that takes the less mentainance while having the higher milage would be more reasonable in the long run, so with that saying are you selling or trading because I would buy the toyota if you are selling and I can afford it, that is if your mechanic doesn't buy it from you first.

So what was your decision?
Just curious what criteria did you use to decide which car to keep?
