Although out of topic, a 2007 Ford Taurus (older body style) is now going for less than $6,000 private party on Craigslist. I try to encourage all the poor people to go with a 2007 Ford Taurus because of its worst resale value, efficiency, space, V6 power, fuel economy, age, miles, reliability, styling, dependability, used car availability, etc, instead of a 10 year old Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. It's a hot deal for the poor people, and the Taurus is only one year old.

I'm happy that you made your choice in keeping the Camry! We had a 1997 Chevy Lumina with the 3.1 engine, which your Malibu also has. We replaced two intake manifold gaskets, an alternator, a water pump, and numerous radiator repairs were required. I felt nervous driving the Lumina as it stranded me many times, even though I take pride in maintenance of my vehicles. We sold it with 105k miles with a huge sigh of relief.   We have had a 1997 Camry for over 8 years now and it has never had a single problem. We just maintain it per the owners manual with the exception of using synthetic engine oil and transmission fluid. It has over 126k miles now and we plan on keeping it till it dies, which will likely be around 300-400k miles. Without exception, my Honda and Toyota mechanics say to steer clear of most of the GM engines as they all have similar problems. All you have to do to see I'm not blowing smoke is by looking at similar age Camrys and Malibus on Auto Trader. You'll see boatloads of high mileage Camrys and very few Malibus with high miles. Again, best wishes for you with your Camry!
