#1 of 2 Leaking Antifreeze by bill0749

I own a 2006 Highlander with 15000 miles. I noticed that pink coolant level was low in resevoir.Checked for leaks but to no avail. However , I did detect a brief odor of antifreeze a few weeks back. Is this common or is this a leak?

well, noting that you've received no response in almost a year, perhaps you've found the answer already. on the off-chance you haven't I'll chime in, hopefully not too late.

1st, it is normal for the coolant to appear low when the engine is cool, such as 1st thing in the morning. The fluid expands and fills the reservoir as the engine heats up; as it cools it flows back into the engine.

On the side of the reservoir is marked "MIN" and "MAX". as long as the coolant level is between these marks, regardless of the temp of the engine you are fine.

The opening in the reservoir is not especially well sealed and it also has an overflow pipe. Often when the car is really hot, some of the vapors of the hot coolant will drift out and the car's ventilation system (ac or heat) can draw them into the cabin.

Unless you consistently see that the fluid reservoir is below MIN, there shouldn't be an issue. Just keep an eye on it.
