Decision Time-Help Appreciated!

I have a 2005 Camry Le-4 with 29k. There have been no problems to date with this car. My 3yr bumper to bumper warranty has expired, but I have 2 years left on power train warranty. I like the 2008 Sonata Limited-4 with added safety features and outstanding warranty, plus 0% 72 month financing is appealing as well!
I owe $12,000 on the Camry with 3 years left to pay $355 per month. With trade, I can get the Sonata for 6 ys $318 monthly. I must make a decision by 31 Dec. for that is when the 0% financing expires. What to do, what to do???
I would really appreciate any advice, recommendations, suggestions, etc. from any of you knowledgeable folks out there!! Happy New Year to you all!!

What are they giving you for a trade in for the Camry or are they just going to pay off the loan? Your cost for 6 years will be $22,896. The invoice for the car is $21,710 assuming you are not getting the sunroof but if you are then that adds just over $800. to the dealers invoice. Does this price include your tax, title and any other incidentals? Did you try and negotiate the price of the car down at all? Is the dealer buying your Camry from whoever you are financing with? As far as the car is concerned I think the Sonata is a very dependable car, plenty of room and drives well. I have an 06 Sonata LXV6 which is almost 2 years old but with only 7500 miles because we have an 06 Azera Limited as well. Excellent cars and value and I would probably say that you should go ahead with the deal. Obviously you do not get the $1,000 rebate but then you would have to finance the car and I would imagine the interest payments would come to more than the $1,000. You will exceed the 5 yr bumper to bumper warranty by 1 yr but will still have 4yrs on the power train warranty. Remember that you must adhere, to the letter, the service requirements because Hyundai can be a stickler for following the book. I would be inclined to recommend that you go ahead. Whatever you do, good luck and Happy New Year to you and family.

Thanks for your reply, Don! I would be trading in my Camry and they would be paying off what I currently owe on the Camry. The $318 payment would be what is left after financing the difference, including everything-tax, tags, doc. fee, etc.. They are allowing me around 13,500 or so for my Camry. The Sonata does include a sun roof and lists for around 24k. I must decide quickly if I'm to get the 0% 72 month financing!--This also includes the $500.00 cash back! Again, Thank you!!

I was looking hard at a 07 Camry CE - 4cyl but after I looked at the 07 Sonata SE V6 I got much more car and warranty for my money.I put 300,000 on my 89 4x4 Toyota and wanted back in but with the transmisson troubles I was hearing with the Toyota's it was a simple decision for me. You can't go wrong with the Sonata. btw I have 147,000 on my 4cyl 02 Elantra so there is no worries about a Hyundai 4 banger.

Alton, remember that the resale value for the Sonata is not like that of the Camry. However you should be looking at keeping the car for at least the length of your financing. I think that you may be paying a little more than what you would if you didn't have the balance to be paid off. That being said, you are getting a car that has gotten good marks for reliability. There has been a noisy suspension problem with the 06 and some 07 V6's but I don't know about 08 and I think not. My 06 Sonata is a joy to drive and go for it. Good luck. Let us know how things play out. You will find a great deal of camaraderie and support on these boards.

Don--Thanks for your information and interest! No, I did not get the Sonata. It's not that it's not a very good car; the car plus the 0% 72 month financing were very appealing and enticing. However, my wife and I made the decision to keep the Camry at this time. We figured where could we get a comparable 2005 car with less than 30k for $11k plus? Knock on wood, but we've had no problems thus far with the vehicle. In addition, it will be paid off in less than 3 years! I really like the Hyundai Sonata and Azera, and down the road, who knows...! Again, I appreciate the contributions from yourself and others! May you all have a great 2008!!--Alton

Well... I don't know about everyone else all I can do is speak about my own experience. I was always a Ford man and had extremely very good luck with them. However the gas mileage was getting to me. Longf story shoret my brother-in-law shows up from out of town with an '06 Sonata. I drove it for a few miles and fell DEEPLY in love. I keep saying that if Detroit could come up with that kind of engineering we wouldn't have to worry about competition, excluding the labor rate. Anyway, I wnated the LX or as it is now known Limited. It took me almost 4 months to locate one and it was a cherry!!! I have only put about 4k on her, and have yet to have any preoblems AT ALL!!!!!!! I have driven almost everything on the market, considering I was on the road selling for 40 years, so I know when I'm behind the wheel of a decent vehicle Agfain, NOT ONE PROBLEM. others hare hearing things I don't, so I don't know what to tell you, other than Hyundai has the the absolute worst dealer network I have ever seen in the auto business, If you do have a problem, and it's not a warranty issue take it to an independent. A quick example, I go to the dealer and tell the"SERVICE MGR" that my brothers car has a cable in the trrunk and mine doesn't, and tell him it is an emergency release bcable for the gas cap, this blooming idiot has the unmitigated gall!!!!! toi tell my car car does not have that on it. I go home, remove two plastic retainerspull away the liner and guess what I found? Talk about a shithead who knows NOTHING about the vehicle they are dealing with, so I guess I am making my point. It's a great machine and love it more each time I climb behind the wheel, just one mans opinion.
