Well, let me be the first to say how wrong I ended up being.

After a number of test drives yesterday of Passats, GTI's, GLI's, EOS and you name it, but I wasn't "satisfied" from an instinctive perspective - hard to explain.

Anyhow, around 9pm last nite I noticed a porter pulling a nice A4 into a spot on the lot as I was contemplating the GLI and my guy told me it must have just arrived. Naturally, I inquired about the price and the initial offer was quite attractive, which made me drive it and within the first 30 seconds, I knew that was my car. I was at the dealership until 1 am before the deal was finally closed due to my haggling, but I ended up with what I thought to be a respectable deal. The car was one-owner - clean carfax report - and I can't find any dings anywhere, which is really surprising. 33k miles, which is ok. If you guys are interested in what I paid, I'll post that, but take a few guesses. I'm not a real good haggler, but I thought I did ok, but your guesses will either confirm or deny my suspicions.

The following is a link to a number of pictures of it - it's a real nice car and I've always, for some reason, considered the A4 my dream car in the sense that there was something about it that always drew my attention to it. Anyhow it's funny how a guy can try to make himself "think" he wants another type of car, but when the dust settles, it all comes full circle. Thanks guys.

Get the GLI with DSG, unless you really need AWD. It's a blast to drive. Faster than the BMW.
