On my '09 LL Bean, there is a little sort-of rectangular patch, either transparent or the same color as the body paint, attached on the body just in front of each of the rear wheel wells. I thought they might be protective coverings for transit, but my sales rep told me that they are permanently affixed and are there to protect the bulge of the wheel arch from getting chipped by stones and whatnot. He said the protective films they put on cars for shipping are white, not clear. He said other Subarus have these body-colored patches as well. Has anybody else seen these? Is this common on Subarus? If they are intended to be permanent, do they last the life of the car without pealing off or discoloring? What are they made of?
