2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo
- Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

The reason that this was such big news was because it was the first time that a Nissan had allegedly beaten the Porsche. Not the umpteenth time, but the first. So, I guess when you say sometimes Porsche is on top and sometimes Nissan is on top, that means ALL the times but once the Porsche has been on top. Right?

No, you live in the same universe, you're just constantly confused. The reason this was big news is it was the first time the car with a reputation for being faster than a 911 was hitting the US. The Skyline GT-R actually spent more time 'on top' in the 90's.

When Nissan released the R32, Porsche had nothing in production that was 'Nissan fast'. When the R33 hit Europe, Porsche did not have an answer until the 996.

As for Nissan having a 911 competitor in the past, I never got the memo on that one...

Then again, maybe you guys do live in a parallel universe, because all us here in reality did get the memo.

You seem to be ready to accept any internet rumor. Porsche's claim about the GT-R is what can't be substantiated. Every independent tester agrees its 'Porsche fast' or better.

The GT-R 'laps' the Nurburgring at a variety of times in the hands of different drivers, but achieved a best time of 7:29.

Okay. Nice posts. Not.

Prove it. Show me somewhere that the world cared more about what NISSAN was doing over Porsche. Please! Prove it and I'll stop posting here forever.

Except by Porsche..... who is all that really matters.

Seriously, get a grip on your inner fanboy. It's a Nissan and it grabbed headlines because Nissan cooked up a meal that you're eating buffet style. Get a grip.

Nice post.

Oooo new video. Lets have a look

More of the same. Yawn. This is getting tiring almost.

Its no wonder Porsche is embarrased enough to make up stories.
The Turbo doesn't stand a snowball's chance against the GT-R anywhere in the world its been tested by a third party, and certainly not the Carrera S. Keep dreaming. LOL!

Very interesting review from same driver, same-day 997TT vs. stock GT-R.

Owning both cars simultaneously, I guess he would know.

Your emotorcons don't scare me.

Didn't you see this? Nissan lied about their time. The Porsche is apparently much faster.

Haha, you're still calling that 'apparent'? There is no evidence supporting Porsche's claim. That's not apparent. Thats Porshce curled up in a corner coming up with pathetic excuses.

The Porsche 911TT is slower on any track in the world. Yup, that includes the Nurburgring.

There's even GPS data FROM A TURBO OWNER that I referred to. I suppose you didn't read it so I'll put it here for you. He said:

Conclusion: Stock for Stock, the 997TT HAS NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER versus a stock GT-R.

A bit redundant, but I guess he really wanted to get the point across.

Any track in the world - road course or oval, paved or dirt, built for NASCAR or motorcycles? How about a frozen lake track? Or a quarter mile dragway? That's the claim you want to make? You don't want to qualify that in any way?

The real question is, is that all you've got to go by now?

Somehow my little 'any track in the world' comment gets taken out of context.

Lets limit this to asphalt. You already know I don't think the GT-R is much of a dragster. All my posts have been, by default, road-courses.

Everywhere it has been tested by third parties. Including the Nurburgring. As I shall now demonstrate.

What is 'apparent' is that Porsche has a chronic lying problem. I'm just going to re-post this from another thread. Its great stuff.

-Porsche claims the Turbo will do 7'38" on the Ring.
-SportAuto could not verify their claim. The best SA could do was 7'54" in the 997Turbo...On R compound tires.-Yet Porsche is saying that Nissan's 7'29" time is not repeatable...

Meanwhile...

-Sport Auto, MERELY GETTING A FEEL FOR THE GT-R, did a 7'50", on OEM street (NOT R COMP) tires. In the wet. That's 4 seconds faster than they got with a 997 Turbo on R Comp tires...and again, they weren't out to set the fastest time possible with the GT-R. And they were in the wet.

Does Porsche really want to try to make the argument that the GT-R is slower on the Ring vs the 911 Turbo? Do they really want to talk about the tires? Do they really want to bump all the news stories everywhere to bring this into focus?

Give them rope everyone, give them rope. Children close your eyes. Everyone stand back. They will hang themselves.

This was bound to happen. Porsche is obviously flustered, big time.

Porsche's story contains several discrepancies.

You keep misinterpretting Horst's comments. He is saying that if he could do 7:50 in the wet, be believes the Nissan 7:38 time was more representative of what the car is capable of.

Cars go faster in the dry. Please don't try to rebut that claim again.

I thought Sport Auto's 7:50 time was not a wet track, but a track with one damp corner. Is that incorrect? If not, it seems like Sport Auto is right in line with Porsche's GT-R time.

And actually while I'm thinking about it, the stock Dunlops (the tires the GT-R uses while beating Turbos on pavement) are all-seasons. The Turbo makes its best times on HPSTs.

So, this is just an opinion, but I'd guess that if you made up a decathalon of track tests, the GT-R would win or tie the Turbo in just about everything.

Road course, oval, gravel, dirt, Nascar, motorcylces, a frozen lake, 1/4-mile strip, tube-launched from a submarine, dropped from an airplane, etc. etc. you name it.

Anyone want to set this up? It'd be one helluva day
