2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo - Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

Replying to: lemmer (May 07, 2008 10:12 am) I always find Edmunds numbers questionable, in this article, the 0-60 run of the Porsche 911 was 3.7 seconds. Once the GTR came into the picture, these numbers changed as you have observed. In the article for the GTR, why did they use Octane 91 when they knew Octane 93 would yield better results, close to the Octane 94 used in Japan. (the (911 does not seem to say what Octane gas they used unless I missed it) These are questions I have that may not be important to most. Just my 2 cents. However as I had said earlier, the true measure of performance, beyond the 0-60 & quarter mile has been concluded on the "ring".

I love the fact that the GT-R will be an everyday car... will handle North East winters... and allow me to bring my date and another couple... all while blowing past 99.9% of the cars on the road in all of the world combined The GT-R will become the King! I'm happy Nissan is getting noticed, it's a great automobile manufacturer that makes great vehicles - all of them. Anyone who is fortunate to buy one will truly appreciate their "Carbon Footprint" ... worthy of casting and framing! |

Replying to: sjaieve (May 07, 2008 1:13 pm) I can relate about spacial dimensions in the Skyline GT-R but can anyone give me some way of putting the size of the backseat in the GT-R into an actual perspective. Here's where I stand: the last 2 coupes I sat in were the BMW M3 coupe and the Infinity G37 coupe. While the leg room in the infiniti was pretty good I noticed that my head hit the glass of the back window because of the slope. I had to lean forward a little bit just to not hit my head on the window and it wasn't comfortable at all. I'm only about 5'10'' so I'm not that tall. Anyone sat in a GT-R and compared or wondered about a question of backseat size comparison similar to mine? Great posts by the way on the 91 vs 93 fuel. It makes it very easy to manipulate figures that way doesn't it? I hadn't thought about that before and it makes me wonder if car companies actually pay off magazines to set the figures a certain way? It seems no matter where you go, there's always politics to play? I'm actually a fairly light mannered guy, I just got a little too carried away with the last posts? Thanks everyone for your tolerance and patience!

I see you sell Nissans, and are probably hoping the GT-R will act as a halo car, but let me be the voice of a former customer... ....GT-R accomplishments aside, this is the same Nissan that turned the Nissan Maxima from a "4-door sports car" that competed with the 3/5 series for buyers in 1995 into a Love Boat that now competes with Buick in 2008. .../And they "reincarnated" the spirit of the 240Z with an equally bloated, spare parts bin designed 350Z that has absolutely none of the ground up engineering of a Honda S2000, let alone a GT-R. It may have been a profitable exercise, tweaking the Pathfinder's engine and disregarding the 400 lbs more that the 350Z weighs than my 1995 Maxima, but it is a slap in the face to the original 240Z. Over the past 30 years, I've driven more miles in Nissans than any other brand, but they have nothing in their showrooms today outside of the GT-R that I would remotely consider. And, after renting a couple on business trips, they can take their CVT rubber bands and stick them where the sun doesn't shine. Pardon the interuption, back to the GT-R. |
