2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo - Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

The fun of the GT-R is in the legend. Porsche doesn't have a developed story about a legend, it's just a Porsche. I guess you could say the name means something but for most of us it's just a name that means money. There's a certain degree of mystery and natural fascination with the GT-R because it's like a dream you can never quite remember. It's there, and then gone again leaving hints of the memory behind to piece together. The idea of a car becoming a methphor representing that mystery, surprise and dominance is the fun part. That is what sets the GT-R apart from the competition and makes it more than just a car. Would you rather own a name or an actual object that is a living metaphorical legend for power and dominance? For me one is far more rare than the other and the experience in knowing what the GT-R really stands for means much more than driving a Porsche. And for the record, this will be the first Nissan Skyline GT-R into the United States. You can get there WILL BE COLLECTORS and they will still be leaving most Porsche's behind. Jay Leno will probably be one of the first in line to get one. Also, give the GT-R 6 months to a year and with some more boost from 11 PSI to 25 or maybe even 30 depending on what the engine can handle. When that happens, you will have an AWD rocket capable of pushing over 1000 hp on pump fuel. How much is a Veyron again? Doesn't matter...it wil still be trying to catch up. oh and the GT-R remains a sports car even in the rain and snow. So, not only can it smoke 99% of EXOTICS and MUSCLES but you can drive it anywhere and not be worried about what happens off the track. Oh yes, I don't think this will be one fast car ending up in a bone yard. No, no, the legend will live on! But then again...just a thought. |

Link to the Sickness Link to the craziness Nurburgring lap time for GT-R: 7:29 Note: It does not specify V-spec. What it appears they are saying is that in dry conditions, the stock GT-R on stock tires is 9 seconds faster than on wet pavement. Surprised? You shouldn't be. This truly is the start of the next generation of GT cars. One can only guess how fast the V-spec will be. 7.10s? 7.00s?

this puts the nail in the coffin. for anyone that still wants to claim the z06 and 911 TT still has a chance of achieving times like the GT-R on the track. or can even rival it for that matter http://www.nissaneurope-newsbureau.com/nissanmedia/front?controller=SubRubrik&id- =nissan_europe_press_room_10772091931250/news_and_events_10772871591872/presse_r- eleases_10781508884370/corporate_10781511772180&pubId=gt_r_achieves_under______a- t_nurburgring_12095056384513968

Replying to: 240ka (May 01, 2008 8:26 am) I can't even imagine how fast the V-spec is. I wonder if they deleted the A/C and radio or if all the weight loss is due to carbon-fiber panels. Either way, 150kg is a lot. And while the slowest GT-R is faster than the fastest Porsche... You ain't seen nothing yet! The 'sporty' ones are on their way. Guaranteed.
