2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo
- Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

But I'm sure as heck not going to blindly take someone else's word for it.

I've removed a number of posts from this discussion. If you notice that yours are missing and you'd like them back, please email me and I'll send them to you. A few barely respectful posts still remain because they contain potential seeds for productive and civil discussion if cooler heads can prevail.

A few other things...
* Bias, subjectivity, and personal experience are valid factors in formulating any opinion.
* All opinions are valued here, as long as they apply to cars.
* The cars being discussed here are not Subarus. Subaru Forums are here: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.eea1a91/

What I'm hearing is that nearly everyone here acknowledges the price and speed of the GT-R, but that opinions vary when it comes to the effect that these factors will have in the the hearts, minds, imaginations, and wallets of drivers. This is something that can be discussed without getting personal.

If you have any questions or comments, please send me an email.

Anyone else read the May 2008 Road & Track cover story (“Outrageous! Nissan’s GT-R SPANKS Porsche 911 Turbo and Corvette Z06”)? The testers thought that the 2wd of the Corvette was insufficient for the power (like trying to control a wild beast on a leash), and that the Porsche Turbo’s rear end could get unglued suddenly and make for a wild ride. GT-R wasn’t plagued by either problem, and soundly “spanks!” the other two at the track, with rather huge lap time wins. All reviewers raved about the GT-R on the track.

I finally got that issue in the mail. Seeing the GT-R up next to its competitors, it's styling is actually starting to grow on me. At least in white anyway. I also like black or red. Any color but the silver they were using on all the prototypes works for that car, IMHO.

Personally, I would rather roll at 194 MPH in my 911 turbo than in a two ton Japanese train wreck. As for the turbo not being the Pinnacle of the Porsche line.... It was... if only for a few months. I should add that I was highly dissapointed that my dealer DIDNT say "Hey.... hold on a few months.... there's something better coming down the pipe"...

None the less! Once the warranty runs dry, I am installing the larger turbines and the new software to get the 550 HP I deserve.... darnit...

there are so many cars out there that look all the same... from Nissan to toyota/Lexus... and they are all "nice cars". The thing is.... I cant tell you how many times I have had people walk up to me and compliment my 997 turbo. It happened two times today alone! One guy just "Had to hear it rev up" which I was glad to do for him. Owning a Porsche is like being part of a very special family. It isnt always about speakers(though I really enjoy my Bose system) or pop down video games for the kids. with me, it is simply the road, the machine and I. I admit when I first recieved shipment of my car, I had a great time watching every car on the interstate simply dissapear behind me. Now, a year later, I STILL love how my rear view mirror works

After Audi's new V-12 Diesel clearly outpowered both Penske's and DHL's RS Spyders in the last ALMS race, this new "Nissan thing" is now no longer the main issue.
