2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo - Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

well you can love a Porsche they are great cars but the GTR is a lot more stable of a platform and has a lot more traction not that the Porsche is a bad car no no its the bench mark probably still is for that class of car this is a new breed of super car I won't even include the 911 in it's class it is that much better . 7.38 Nuremberg record run 400 lbs heavier than the Porsche ? 600lbs heavier than the vette and thrashes it hard it is simply a new breed one that will have Porsche scratching theirs heads for sometime Now no doubt some people will prefer to keep their Porsche and I say go for what you want it is your money just don't expect to have a car that is better than a GTR for a little over half the cost that weighs more and still outperforms the Porsche 911 turbo unconceivable that a 3800 car could thrash the vette using only a v 6 Still the vetter and 911 are super cars just not able to outperform a car that weighs more coming out of Japan expect top tier reliability Kudos Nissan a Great effort that has spawned a new breed of car a reliable race car for half the cost of lesser cars. anyone trying to compare a vette or a viper to this new car is insane those two cars while nice sports cars but do not have the traction nor the abilities of the GTR if and when the others get awd we can have a comparo as is no need for a comparo I already know the outcome 911 turbo is a very capable car but not so capable that the GTR has to worry I guess like the Nissan engineer said it has no competitors its a new breed They built it will they come Very exclusive car one that can ride around all day in traffic with a soft suspension or go to the race track and embarrass a GT 40 and even in winter it is stable there are faster cars but you will need 3 times the money there are lesser cars sold at twice the price A new high mark has been set by Nissan I expect Porsche to compete here or fold they will be scrambling over to the drawing boards for some time at Porsche While the people at GM scramble for more Power for the vette they seem to be oblivious that an awd system is needed to compete in this class outstanding the GTR can't say enough good things about it coming from a vette owner it is a compliment I assure you

There are all kinds of new members that jump into a discussion, talk about how awesome the "insert make" is and then leave after 2 days. OR, maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist...... Whatever. -moo |

These Porsches have been touted by most car magazine authors as being the best in balancing a high performance car as a daily driver. Why do we enjoy driving these car so much, realizing that most speed limits are at the 70mph limit? With a few illegal excursions above 80mph, you would have to drive one yourself. Balanced steering, braking and responsiveness wrapped in a quality package with history and heritage is a wonderful experience. Everyone wants to " knock off" Porsche. There must be an explanation beyond your reasoning buddy. Because you may not be able to afford the car should not detract / berate those who can. It's a great experience to drive one. Happy New Year !! Chromedome

Likewise, Nissan can bring to market higher technology, similar (deliberately so, IMHO) configuration and layout of engine and chassis, fancier materials and seel the product for 2/3rds off Porsche's asking price. How do they do this? By being a huge, huge company with enormous cash reserves, anger at German sportscar manufacturers selling overpriced sportscars with iron and steel frames to dumb rich people (there's a lot of them out there), and a general passion for excellence. This recipe has been working for Chevrolet for 40 years now. |
