2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo - Balance and body control of the GT-R are extraordinary through faster, bumpy bends that will have the 911 unsettled enough to make the driver lose confidence. I had a number of heart-in-mouth moments in the Turbo trying to keep up with the GT-R, even with the Porsche's suspension set to its harder Sport setting. (more)

Once you've owned one you realize that there is no car like it and you want nothing else. You guys, Corvette owners included ..just don't get it. WE DON"T CARE. It's been stated before " you get what you pay for. Trimming down always costs you ( one who makes the purschase as well as one who sells the item )in the end. Nissan is just like Porsche in that they want to make money. You figure it out! Let's see if the GTR is around 44 years from now. Chromedome |

this same article albeit a few missing paragraphs (UK references and drivers' names omitted) can be found in the January edition of Top Gear. neither version of the article mentions the other source, so one of them isn't giving credit... anyway, for Jeremy Clarkson to call the GT-R the best car he's ever driven is quite a statement considering he's driven the Veyron, just about every Ferrari or Porsche, modern supercar, et al. made. scans of the article can be found here: http://forums.motortrend.com/70/6468493/the-general-forum/top-gear-2009-nissan-g- t-r/page2.html

If the 2 second difference between a GT-R and 997 Turbo is "demolishing", then what is the 7 second advantage of a 911 GT2 over the GT-R? "Super-duper-uber" demolishing?? Grow up. The fact is, all of these times were posted in the hands of extraordinarliy skilled race drivers of which I - and I suspect EVERYBODY here - has no more than the luck of shoe size in common with. And the fact is, that the GT-R, 911 Turbo, 911 Gt3 and especially, 911 GT2 are posting very impressive times - separated by a total of 9 seconds at a track - that any one of us would likely take about a minute or two longer to get around. I readily admit that I may have a difficult time telling the difference between 2, 3 or even 7 seconds in ultimate capability over an 8 minute 31 second run of 14 miles. But I sure as hell can tell when I'm behind the wheel of a 2 seater that weighs nearly 2 tons. And I don't need to go to Germany. I can take one test drive through Rock Creek Park in DC at 40 mph, a route that I drive everyday. Perhaps those who are infatuated with magazine or video reviews of cars ought to spend more time behind the actual wheels before drooling on themselves and thier keyboard in fantasy. I could make academic arguments based upon "numbers" as to why the $35k 350Z ought to "demolish" a $60k Boxster S. But it isn't even a nominally fun car to drive compared to the much more nimble, razor like $32k Honda S2000, let alone the Porsche. As impressive as the GT-R appears to be to some based upon track times at " The Ring", my instinct from driving other cars, including the 2+ ton AMG SL55/600/65 is that it's weight will make it a very dull driver at under 100 mph on the roads I travel. I'll reserve final judgement until I DRIVE it, as I did the 350Z, but I'm not holding my breath.

Fair enough, they want to sell cars. However..... any non-biased observer would immediately see the Godzilla styling and body panel issues that this car has...such as, you ask?? Yes ...the different colors between the fender and bumper panels. Very obvious. Plastic and metal is hard to paint the exact same color. Porsche does it best..go check for yourself. Youtube has a pretty cool film of the GTR vs a BMW M3 . The GTR RIPPS!!!!, but most buyers will never drive the car like that. I still prefer build quality, quality materials and heritage thank you. If you want to go dump $70-90K on this car go ahead... Caveat Emptor guys Chromedome

That will most likely be subpar as compared to the 911 Turbo. Let's see what happens though. (All this coming from a Porsche salesman.) -moo

Replying to: madmanmoo (Dec 29, 2007 2:07 pm) I whole-heartedly agree...the numbers are right there. The Youtube video was impressive. We all look for different things in cars, I am sure, many Porsche owners are looking for performance, design, heritage , history and for myself including those concerns quality is a big issue. My C2S will probably be in great shape 20 years from now, the GT-R..hmmmm????At the SD auto show closing doors and feeling the leather seats on a varity of cars, it just seemed the more expensive European cars had far better quality. The Corvette leather seats even on the more expensive models were like plastic..a bad plastic. I always get a kick out of the design lines also. You never see Porsche, Audi ,BMW or Mercedes copying design. The Japanese cars have many similar design features to BMW and MB. The Bangle design lines are spreading. Side panels, rear and front light copies are more than obvious. Thus far no one car maker has had the huevos ( spanish for " eggs ", read balls ) to copy Porsche design..they may get bolder in the future. Anyway .. to each his own. Chromedome

Replying to: KarenS (Dec 14, 2007 9:27 am) Lets face it, your not going to drive 70 miles an hour in one of these cars everyday. Your more than likely going to open it up on occasion. That is very fun, no question, but most of the people who can afford these cars are already past their first prostate exam and would probably have a hard time getting in and out of them anyway. Plus, what fun is driving the car when you have to stop to pee every thirty minutes at your age? You should know better. "Buy them for your collection, buy them for the track, but race on the streets, and you'll find it in da impound out back."
