Title Fight: Evo X vs. WRX STi - At almost the same moment, Mitsubishi and Subaru have slammed the door on the past. The flame-spouting, wheel-churning rally-specification sedans of recent years have been tossed onto the ash heap, and in their place we find the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI — two cars that are about sophistication as well as speed. Good info, thank you. Interesting that the Evo's AWD electronics made the car feel "digital" at times. Perhaps you'll find the same with the upcoming Saab Sport Combi and its updated torque-sensing Haldex AWD? Hopefully some day Subaru will get an auto-clutch manual into the STI, as the Evos' will steal a few sales.

Another point to ponder is if its a safe bet to buy a mitsu at all, since it is a floundering company. Subaru is a solid company (fuji), mitsu is holding on to survival by its fingernails.

| I disagree with the article about the looks. I prefer the STI silhouette to the EVO. I can't past the Bull Nose Shark face of the EVO. That front can't be good for CD. The STI front end and lines flow better to me. I also just prefer wagons overall anyway. No doubt these are both fine performance cars, that most everyone would be pleased driving. For me the Subaru STI is the top pick. | |

After reading several reviews of each model on other websites, I had a feeling the STi would come out on top, if only slightly. Being the owner of an Evo VIII, I must say that I am more interested in the new STi, mainly due to its relative lack of electronic nannies. I'd hate for my $35K ride to feel like a car from Playstation's Gran Turismo.

EVO and STI went plush and traded off some performance and more posh for the older guys who like a comfy ride and don't want a boy racer car but taking the edge off isn't good. You sell the most cars to the guys with the most money so we get a softer car as a result. Mitsu needed more money so more posh. |

I have always viewed Mitsu as having below average reliability and build quality, with Subaru having better than average reliability. This is important given these two cars are packing their manufacturers most advanced tech.

According to Consumer Reports, the 2008 Outlander along with 2008 Honda Element have the best predicted reliability in its class beating both Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4: CR best predicted reliability. No Mitsubishis listed among worst. Also the Outlander and the Eclipse made the CR top 5 most reliable in its class. Again, no Mitsubishis listed in the least reliable category: CR List |
