What is this discussion about? Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Sedan

Comparison Test: 2007-2008 V6 Family Sedans - Each of the four entrants chosen for our comparison test represents the highest available trim level, and each is also packed with nearly every available option and an overachieving V6 power plant driving the front wheels. Heck, the least powerful engine in this test churns out 252 horsepower, a figure that was unheard of in the mainstream sedan world not long ago. (more)

Of course the Honda Accord comes in first place, doesn't it always? Also, the best belongs in first, and the Accord is certainly, inarguably, undoubtedly that!

Second is for suckers and the Altima is definitely that. Nissan has priced the Altima insanely high. I'm talking ludicrous.

Third is far behind but the Malibu takes the spot. Why settle though?

Fourth is the Camry because Edmunds likes sportiness, and the xle is a bad choice for the Toyota when an SE is available.

I think the only reason why the Accord shouls win these comparison tests is because the Accord has historically higher resale values. For this reason alone, the Accord should be #1 and the Malibu #2 even if the Accord isn't any better than the Malibu.

Odd. You say, "The Malibu is a distant Third, but why settle for it? Why not just get the Accord/Altima, which are better cars and call it a day?"
Then you place the Camry in Fourth, saying, "...But you don't settle with the Camry; the Camry came in Fourth because a wrong trim level was compared, and because Edmunds likes sportinessand not luxury."

Why is it that you're "settling" with the Third-place car, but not "settling" with the Fourth place car? Based on your reasoning, shouldn't the Malibu be last?

Chevy:

Accord:

Altima:

Camry:

As we can see, it's all preference. I like the Accord and Malibu (Malibu would look nicer w/NAV in the picture)
Altima? So-so. Camry? It's easy to see why there was the 4th-place finish. Notice all cars seem to have hard plastics in roughly equal amounts.
Notice irregular panel fits and pieces in the Accord interior where panel pieces come together by the A/C vent at the right of the glovebox .

Honda Accord doesn't come in first place everytime anymore. The new Malibu smoked the new Accord soundly in Motor Trends COTY competition. In addition, GM's new Caddy won.

was disadvantaged because they didn't choose the best model, the SE. The XLE is known to be geared to the Buick lovers of the world. The SE is tuned for better driving dynamics.

However, who am I to change Edmunds' rankings. They are as they are, and stand.

I think however, perhaps the SE Camry would be in 2nd and half place, thereby bumping the Malibu to 3rd and a half place.....

And what assurances do I get that Motor Trend's editors weren't bought out by Chevy handing them $100 bills over a free lunch?

Oh come on, Andres, give it a rest - you only accept comparo results that put the Accord in first place. Any other results have you convinced that something underhanded is going on.

You really need to accept that different people and different reviewers can have different criteria than yours and therefore can, and do, arrive honestly at different conclusions and make different choices than you do.

ok, so you're a fuddy duddy, just kidding. If you buy a Malibu, you'll be getting a great car for sure! I'd suggest the extended warranty, not kidding. It isn't a lot bigger than the Altima, and the trunks are about the same. In the end they are really very different cars. The Altima 3.5SL has a much different ride, handle, and interior. That interior is much more like the others and does partially away with the sportiness. That was perhaps a better choice to compare with. Enjoy the search, it's truly nice you have several to pick from. Don't forget to look at a Hyundi Azera, you may be really surprised, price and all.

My point exactly. Toyota must have cheaped out on the payola. Now of course Honda would never have to do that because their cars are perfect.
