Comparison Test: 2007-2008 V6 Family Sedans - Each of the four entrants chosen for our comparison test represents the highest available trim level, and each is also packed with nearly every available option and an overachieving V6 power plant driving the front wheels. Heck, the least powerful engine in this test churns out 252 horsepower, a figure that was unheard of in the mainstream sedan world not long ago. (more)

Actually, if you read and comprehended Edmunds' comparo, you would have realized that they did in fact state that the Altima sedan was vastly superior to the Coupe version. !

they are essentially the same. minor differences. nothing so great as to justify two totally contradictory reviews.

Also, The VQ engine was good, that is.... until the Honda/Acura 3.5 came out; at least according to this Edmunds comparo

but not according to wards.

You also make it clear you believe all of the workers at Edmunds must get paid on the side by Consumer Reports as well. Edmunds isn't the only source which rates Honda highly. Are Edmunds employees getting checks from CR too?

I never said they were getting paid off or anything like that. But their blatant one sided-ness just makes them a very unreliable source for me. The accords a great car to be sure, but its not perfect. and considering it only has about 15% of midsize sales, and isn't even the best selling midsize, I'd say edmunds has a preference. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with that. especially considering they sometimes even own up to it. But nonetheless, it does exist.

According (no pun intended ) to the badge whores here, its better than everything else, handles better than everything else, is faster than everything else, is of a higher quality and reliability than everything else, gets better MPG than everything else, and is cheaper than everything else:

yet doesn't sell better than everything else. I'm not saying its a bad car, and wouldn't mind owning one. I just don't think its all that and a biscuit like some of you guys, and edmunds seems too. not to mention 85% of people who buy midsize sedans.

The Honda's seem to be higher quality fit and finish than Toyota's and Nissan's. Every time I demo the other brands they come out second to my Honda.

08 Accord v6 enigine is a rougher running engine for sure than all other accords previous. at higher speeds the engine has a rough running low feq roar.. I assume its the 3 cyl operation.. the ANC is not all that effective in my opinion. The 3 cyl operation also seems to not only create a grumbling harmonic in the cabin but also is creating vibration that is bad.

I don’t count myself as Camry hater, but, when time came to buy new sedan two month ago, I even didn’t take Camry into consideration. Why? Why people hate so nice car?
Because it’s too much. There are too many Camry on the streets. It’s good that a half of population into SUV now, otherwise, it could be twice as much Camry around.
It became boring and provokes negative reaction. It’s like good and tasty food, but when you ate it too much, it’s going back up from your stomach.

You did you research, comparisons, magazines, articles, webs, reviews, opinions, test-driving… You did figured it out right: Toyota did good job; Camry is the best one – deserves to be taken, especially SE. You bought, you’re happy; people do some positive comments; everything done right and Camry is exclusive to you. Is it?

I’ll tell you what’s wrong. Imagine such a thing:
It’s going to be big anniversary – 25 years you and your wife together. You want to be nice; you want to make her happy at least once for 25 years. Beside huge surprise patty, you want to present her an expensive, designer dress for this evening. You did a lot research, catalogs, magazines, names… You did figure out right Name. But it’s hard to get in. Name is very busy with others names. But you didn’t give up. It was hard, but you in. It took a lot of time and money, but finally you got it. Your wife is very happy; she shines in new dress – it fits perfectly. You with her are walking slowly into the dark hall; lights are on and surprise…every 3rd women in the room is wearing the same dress. How are you going to feel after that? The same is with your Camry.

Now, you can ask: what is Toyota’s fault about all of these, if almost a half mil. Americans love Camry so much, that ready to buy it every year? I’ll tell you:
Instead of to take advantage of people, who are Horses by their birth date, and are buying Camry just because their neighbor already has it. Toyota could take a bit from this huge Camry profit and invest it in the same Camry again. To bring to us not one, but three of them – each with own distinctive look, style and colors. After that, I bet, they will go 200-250,000 cars of each.
Who will be a winner?

2007 Camry is the car of the year in Motor Trend, but it dropped to the fifth place in 2008. Just like dropping from haven to hell. It is either they did something wrong on the 2007 test or they did something inconsistently with this year's test, just not make sense.

Maybe the 2007 Camry troubled transmission has dropped their standing because the 6-spd newly designed tranny. Who knows if Honda new VCM engine may give them some troubles too. Time will tell.

I agree with you that the Camry is alot, but thats business. If you owned Toyota you'd probably raise the price every year too. The Accord is probably just as much if not more. As far as me saying the Camry will be exclusive to me, I was talking only about the SE model. Yes there are plenty of Camry's on the road which is why I chose the SE model. There is a big difference in the SE and the other models, most obvious the body kit and mest grill, but you also get a leather wrapped steering wheel, sport shocks, sport struts, performance exhaust (which sounds much sportier than the regular), 17 inch rims, and more stuff I can't think of right now.

Speaking of the price, I’d come up with 3 different Camry’s, set up the goal for each and that model, which would reach the goal, will be even cheaper next year to attract more people; and so on.
SE is just a bit different from other Camry models and already won you as a buyer. You can imagine how many more people could be attracted to it, if SE would be looking absolutely different from others.

Seems a bit strange to me but the lastest Motor Trend has the Camry first, followed by Malibu, Accord and Altima in that order.

Again, the reason for Camry's late showing this year is that the field has changed: We now have a new Honda and a new Chevrolet to choose from. Two cars which are likely better cars overall.

Consumer Reports rates Altima #1 by bv050506

They just tested a new Accord and ranked it second behind the Altima SE V-6 and 4cyl. Lets all remember they don't advertise and therefore don't get money from anybody. They call it like they see it with a clear consicience, nobody to pay back or favors to be called on. I've always enjoyed their candor and have used CR's analysis more than any others as a result of no allegences.

I sat in a '08 Malibu the other day, which CR will be testing next month. It is an awesome car and will compete with all mid-sized sedans for sure. It would not surprise me if it was close to the Altima, or even a point better. The tranny is good but perhaps not as sweet as the CVT, and the V-q engine will be hard to beat. The Altima is .3 faster to 60 if that's important to you. The Malibu is elegant inside!
