#1 of 4 Odometer / trip computer setup by 20vcq

I have read the manual on this annoyance and no matter what I do to adjust the setup, the damn mileage / average fuel resets itself either each time I start the car as if every time is a new trip or it resets after a 4 hr shut down as noted in the manual. It does not appear that one can override this. The result of this is - one can't get a cumulative average fuel consumption. I have the XLS with the all the bells so I was wondering if there is an undiagnosed conflict between the standard on board system and the "wonder screen" etc.?
Anyone have any experience or similar issues they have solved? I'm hoping I am just to inept to read the manual correctly and there is a simply input fix

As far as I know there is no way to override the 4 hour reset.

Press the trip info button and then press manual on the touch screen. That will show cumulative gas mileage until you manually reset it yourself (as when refueling). It seems to revert back to automatic when you shut the car off, but the cumulative information is stored in there and you can check it anytime by pressing that manual button.
