That depends if you a) expect to need it and b) can't afford to pay the difference if something does happen. Like all insurance, it's always cheaper in the long run to insure yourself if you can afford it. I never buy extended warranties and only buy insurance on the house and vehicles - things that cost more than a few thousand to replace. You'd be trading a guaranteed smaller payment now to avoid a potential large payment later.

My car insurance automatically includes gap insurance so I don't have to get a separate policy elsewhere.
