#1 of 2 Using standard diesel in a vehicle designed for ULSD

Forgive this beginner's question.
I'm interested in buying a Hyundai Santa Fe diesel (from overseas, for an overseas posting). Now in the country I'm to be posted to, they tell me they don't have the ULSD yet. I know that the Santa Fe is designed for use with ULSD. Does this mean that the vehicle won't work with the old kind of diesel?
Thanks.

Depends on what emissions equipment is installed on the Santa Fe. Using higher sulfur fuel will damage emissions equipment in the exhaust system if it's higher than allowed. Check with Hyundai as to what sulfur level (ppm value) is the most allowed, then see what you can obtain in the country you're headed. If the fuel is borderline, you may want to think again... more than likely, there won't be mechanics or repair parts readily available for that system if they don't offer the appropriate diesel fuel.
