Comparison Test: 2008 Honda Accord Coupe vs. 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe
- The 3.5-liter SOHC V6 in the Accord produces 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, while the 3.5-liter DOHC V6 under the Altima's hood is good for 270 hp at 6,000 rpm. Despite the edge in torque output that the Nissan V6's 258 pound-feet has over the Honda's 248 lb-ft, the Accord feels as if it is the twist-meister here. (more)

The Accord is an awesome car, perhaps especially in the coupe. I think Nissan really missed the mark with their version of the Altima coupe. However, the CVT tranny is the best in the market and all the articles I read, from all the car mags think the same! Have you ever really driven one? Did you drive it in a V-6? The Altima Sedan is a superior car to the coupe for sure. You are correct, adding options to these cars is not cheap. I also find that many mags like a particular brand of car, and most of the time it isn't Nissan in the Asian arena. Consumer Reports really liked the ALtima, especially the V-6 SE. That what I have and have found it to be a really good car. The thing I like most is the CVT tranny, so perhaps you just can't get comfortable with it?!?!?

Well, now.... looking at 2007 and 2006 data it looks like Honda has leapfrogged Toyota in CR's reliability rankings, so don't be so fast to say Toyota has dominated Honda in that regard. That conclusion is outdated.

Toyota sells more models than Honda. Unfair to take the entire manufacturer line and compare sales. Only fair to compare model for model sales. that is why GM and Ford sell so many cars, they make tons of junk by different names.

Also, GM and Ford sold many rental and fleet vehicles that were junk, and I don't believe that counts as a "sale."

Also, Honda has continually put out some of the very best fuel efficient vehicles on the market year after year. When it comes to gas mileage, it is clear Toyota and Honda rule.

I'm not one bit surprised by Edmunds' comparison review of the Altima Coupe and Accord coupe. It was 100% predictable.

I recently test drove three Altima SEs (V6 coupe w/ CVT, 2 V6 sedans w/ both trans), Maxima SE w/ CVT and the Accord Coupe V6/MT.

In the sedan category, I was impressed by the Maxima SE. Nice power, roomy, good balance of smooth ride and crisp handling. It was probably unfair to the Altima sedans that I drove them right after the Max. They just aren't quite as refined or comfy and didn't offer much more in performance. If I were going to go 4-door around $30K, a nicely-optioned Max SE would be high on my list.

Two test drives on the Accord V6/MT Coupe were done a week prior to and immediately after the Altima sedans. I do like the styling of the Accord coupe over the Altima coupe. It has a sort of G35 (one of my favs) look to it with the front end somewhat akin to the Bimmer 6 series. Inside, it fit my 6'2" 250lb frame more comfortably than the Altima coupe with plenty of shoulder room. I'm still not sure about the Accord's layout of the radio and climate controls, but that may just take some getting used to.

Well, I picked up the blue Accord V6 6MT coupe yesterday (got the price to about $1400 under sticker and leased it for 36 months). This is purely subjective, but what edged me toward the Honda is that I really enjoy the way this Accord feels going down the road. I'm having plenty of fun driving it and get lots of looks/compliments. When I tell people that it's an Accord, the reaction is usually one of surprise. I haven't pushed it hard yet, but I'm looking forward to the time that I will wring it out a bit (in a month or so). For me, it's just the right balance of performance and comfort with a nice dash of style.

Please don't think that I am downing Nissan. On the same day I got the Accord coupe, my wife got her '08 Pathfinder SE. We had looked at Honda, Kia and Toyota SUVs before making the decision on that. She absolutely loves her new Nissan.

Andres3, are you serious? Honda's "vast superiority"????? Give me a break!!!!
I can't stop laughing. Regarding your ignorant comment about Honda's continued domination in sales compared to Nissan? Hmmm, that's funny, in their home country, Nissan and Honda sales are about equal. It wasn't too long ago that Honda surpassed Nissan in sales in Japan. Honda does not outsell Nissan by a significant margin in Japan. I must agree with you about Toyota though. But Honda? That's a joke.

thegraduate is right on. I have had several Nissans, and I never had any problems with them, and wouldn't hesitate in purchasing the Altima coupe over the Accord coupe.

My thought of the 08 Coupe by flightnurse

I bought a 08 Nissan Coupe 2.5S w/ CVT ,Premiun package, it was used and only had 400 Miles on it. I drove the Honda Accord coupe and found that the Accord didn't feel like a coupe to me, the Altima looks like a G35 coupe and that will be my next car.

My thoughts, I love the Premiun package, it has everything I want, I just wish I have the Tech package also, I'm averaging 29 in the car, I drive mostly on the freeway, and also set the cruise control at 70. So I'm happy with the mileage, I'm sure the more mileage I put on the car the better the mileage I'll get. Its easier to park then our 05 Altima we had, the engine makes 175hp but the CVT really makes it seems like there is more, so far I'm very happy wiht the car..

Nissan is a lot larger company than Honda. Any comparisson should be weighted. I have had good and bad experience with Nissan. Mt Datsun 510 was great. My Nissan Quest, on the other hand, big disappointment. Overall, Nissan is usually ahead of competition in high tech features in their vehicles in my opinion.

My Nissan Stanza (the name Stanza was still used on a tiny plaque on the trunk in the first year that they renamed it the Altima) was enjoyable, but not particularly reliable. The firewall rusted through at the point where the clutch master cylinder was attached. I had to do major kluge work there to enable the vehicle to be driven. I had water leakage and rust in the trunk. I had an unrelated clutch failure that disabled the car for Memorial Day weekend about 80 miles from home and pay lots of CASH for the repair.

I'll stick with Honda's quality and reliability for now.

Yes, it was. My understanding was that the transmission was made by Ford. It started slipping right around 100k miles. Was a nice mini-van as far as looks and comfort/luxury but not mechanical reliability.

from my understanding, the quest was/is a piece of crap. for some reason though, they're determined to stay in the minivan market.
