heather, I have the same problem with my 08 Nissan Altima. My car is now with my 4th dealership in the state of Texas attempting to get it fixed. In September I took my car to Houston where I lived complainiing of the excess winding noise upon acceleration, I asked them to do a diagnostic which they failed to do but still charged me for. They said it was my Heat Shield making the noise.. paid for it to be replaced however all they did was bend it back to normal. i went yet again in october complaining of the same noise again asking them to run a diagnostic and yet nothing. I am in the military and explained that i would be transferring to the West Coast and had to drive me and my family there, paid for other things that were "wrong" and yet in October 200 miles north of Houston, the winding became obnoxiously loud and low and behold my service engine light came on. I had to then drop of my car in Dallas to the Nissan Dealership there where they ran the diagnostic and stated my CVT needed to be replaced. That was at a little over 81K miles. I had to leave my car there and come get it after it was fixed. Mind you i had to stay an extra 7 days in Texas to await my car, only for them to tell me that it would be another 2 weeks. I then took the rental car and left to the west coast. 2 days later the service manager called and said that my car was ready. So much for 2 weeks. I then got all my household goods and drove back to Texas to pick up my car only to find out 7 months later on a road trip from Tulsa, OK this past June that the winding noise had returned and so did the check engine light. When I stopped at the closest dealership in Elk City, OK the service tech then found that my CVT was not properly installed and was missing bolts. I then had to drive my car to Amarillo to the dealership there. Explaining everything that was going on and asking them to run a diagnostic, they claimed they found 3 bolts not installed and they said it was good to go. This is after one of their technicians not only failed to run a diagnostic he also failed to look at the vehicle period. He stated it was fine. They then actually looked under the hood and lifted the vehicle. In the meantime they were so kind to let me use their courtesy vehgicle to get back to Nevada, then since it was "fixed" I then again had to drive back to Texas to get my car. Low and Behold on the way back from Texas 250 miles from Amarillo the winding noise was back and so was the service engine light. I had to take my car again to the closest dealership on 4th of July, which happened to be the only dealer open.. Wichita Falls Nissan. The service center was closed however the sales department stayed open until I arrived. I had to pay for a one way rental on my own dime which was an extra 600.00, then had extra expenses for hotels as this deleayed my trip back to Nevada. my car is now at this dealership and the service manageer informed me yet again I need to replace my CVT transmission. he was able to pull the codes unlike Amarillo who just cant give me a reason why they couldnt other than I know they didnt even do the test. he stated that this was not mechanical error, this was caused by human error. The CVT wasnt even installed correctly. So i have not only posted on every website that I could, I have consumer affairs who has not been very helpful in reimbursment or ANYTHING for that matter other than they are really sorry this has happened. I have contacted the Better Buisness complaint department as well as a lawyer to sue the two dealerships as well as Nissan for all the hardship this has caused me and my family. THIS IS MAINTENANCE MALPRACTICE. Nissan is Nissan and if this many people are having issues with the CVT then they need to recall the vehicles that have the CVT.

Sorry to her that problem again to all Nissan Altima that have a CVT transmission . Nissan should recall all the CVT Trans. and dont used it at any Nissan car. My problem was same thing but my trans. is not CVT. Altima 06 have a recall last November . I have Altima 06 . I never recieve a recall letter from Nissan so I went to my dealer. And they punch in the Vin #. it was not included on that recall. I as my friend at the parts department. He went and check and he said that my car is not a CVT trans. The problem that I have was that Trans. from 1st to 2nd gear it takes time to change . More on Acceleration before it change. Drop it to my Mechanic shop not from Nissan . He have no time he was busy. I took the car back was park on the side street. When i drove the car you wont believe it . The Trans was back to original. until now its still working same as before. Praise the Lord and Thank GOD. Make sure Nissan will pay you back its thier mistake and Mechanics are not being check by thier Supervisor before the car is being realease to the owner.

I work out of my Nissan and put quite a few miles on it daily. I had a brand new 2007 Rogue SL that I kept 3 years and put 64000 miles on. I now own a 2010 Altima 2.5S. I've had the vehicle for a little over a year and now have 35000 miles on it.
I have had zero problems with either vehicle including the CVT transmission .
Now I can tell you some horror stories about a brand new 2007 Toyota Rav4 that had 3 transmissions installed in 6 months. Toyota ended up doing a lemon law by-back and that's when I got my Rogue.

Yeb, I have no problem w/ 4 Nissans and 4 Infinitis so far. I hate when people get too emotional with their cars and start bashing a particular brand b/c they got a lemon. There're always some problems w/ any brand and there's nothing we can do. That's what the warranty/extended warranty for.

I had a 00 Maxima GLE .. great car. But a friend got a same one with lots of problems. So buyer's luck. And I dont blame ppl for venting as its a lot of inconvenience when the car has to be taken to shop over and over.
Not to mention that its lot of money spent. We own ONE car, the manufacturers have TONS of these and should be able to fix these problems and not give us the run around. I sympathize with folks who have issues with their car.

#205 of 258 I AM NOT BUYING NISSAN ANYMORE by juanca08

I have been and loyal Nissan customer for years, but after a bad experience with my 2010 altima CVT I will buy an american car. I have been driving a 2006 Saturn Ion and it drives better than my Altima. I have tried Ford and they really did a great job upgrading their products. Bye bye Nissan.

I completely understand, deadtranny. Yesterday my 08 CVT blew outside Rawlins, WY at 46000 miles while on a long trip. This is unexcusable, and Nissan should have recalled all cars with these transmissions. The dealer could have gotten a new transmission in 1 day from another dealer, but corporate would not reimburse him the costs. So I am stuck for at least 3 days for delivery, and will incur substantial rental car and motel costs. I had even mentioned to my home dealer the whining noise, but they were not responsive. Battery went after 2 years, still under warranty, but they charged over $150 for the new battery, all ending up costing me more for the repair than if I had just gone to Sears!
I too have had it with Nissan. Never again and will never recommend. Good luck with your next vehicle!

I will visit a Honda dealer later today, they may be able to get out of that Altima before it breaks down completely. Now I am starting to have issues with a knocking sound when I start the car, I assume it's the transmission.

I totally understand you being upset about your car but be careful about buying a Ford also. I have owned a couple of Ford vehicles and had problems with them both. My last one I just got rid of because the transmission went out twice in 2 years. I would not buy a Ford again because of the troubles I had with both vehicles. Also, Ford could care less if they lose a customer because I wrote to them explaining my problem and my dismay about their cars and they more or less said, "too bad, so sad". They did not even try to give me any incentive to try one of the new Ford models. Good luck!!
