IMO the Fit is the way to go if you want a small yet versatile hatchback, with excellent fuel economy. It will cost more than an Accent but for that extra money you get the incomparable "magic seats", more cargo room, better crash protection, better fuel economy, and (if you might sell the car in 2-3 years) better resale value.

If you're looking for a larger car, a sedan, like the Civic or Elantra, I think both are good choices. The Elantra is considerably more roomy than the Civic and has a smoother ride, standard stability control (on the SE), and will cost less, while the Civic has sharper handling, a little better fuel economy, and (like the Fit) historically high resale value, and also best-in-class crash test results (Elantra is good there, too, but not all its crash test scores have been published yet).

Have you driven any of these yet? That might help you decide, since the Fit and Civic have a firmer ride than the Accent and Elantra (except the Accent SE has a sport suspension and 16" wheels and is a pretty good handler). One advantage of the Accent for some people is that it has an 8-way driver's seat, which I find very comfortable, while the Fit's seat adjusts only fore/aft and for rake. Check them all out this weekend and maybe you can narrow down the list.

get the Honda..the hyundai might cost just a $1,000 less...but in the long run the Honda is a much better value. Honda has the best resale value of any car company..and few years down the line if you want to trade it in or sell it, the Honda will be worth so much more than the hyundai..they have one of the worst resale values..even though they build great cars
check out this link to Car and Driver where there was a comparison test done

I "fit" in the Fit a heck of alot better than the Accent.. I'm 6'5", so any of you taller drivers will be better off in the Fit.

Honda Fit is more like $4000(more?), not $1000 more than the Accent. One dealer here in the NW sold 2007 Hyundais for $8000 six months ago, & several dealers recently sold lots of 2008 Accents for $9000. I even met someone that got the $9000 deal & he was ecstatic about his Accent. Hundred thousand mile Accent warranty that Honda doesn't match.

My wife's 2008 Accent which she loves, operates 100% without ANY squeaks, creaks or rattles & her hard stop & go highway commute averaged 33MPG thru a hard winter. She let me feather foot Accent over 1400, 3000, 4000, & 5500 foot mountain passes, to 101 degree E. Washington, & Mt. Rainier getting 41.5, 42.6, & 45.2 MPG.

Resale value? Why sell the Accent? Just keep driving Accent & keep your money in the bank. My last three cars, I've kept 15, 22 & 18 years. Accent will be in our family many years if not decades.
