#1096 of 2720 I am a happy owner of a VCM equipped Accord

After reading the posts on the VCM I almost canceled my order with the local dealer. I am glad that i did not, I liked the idea of getting a 3.5L V6 that got only 2mpg less than the 4cyl. I looked into the repair history of the last VCM motor and it is perfect on the Odessey and the Pilot. I find the car smooth and powerful and without flaw. In fact the 6cyl handles better and gives a more euro feel than the 4cyl in handling and power. I am very happy and have no quams about the VCM. In fact the technology has been common in German cars since 1999 and honda has clearly taken this and the GM experiences to another level. Lets face it with gas going up to$4 a gallon this is a great alternative to driving an underpowered 4 banger.

I would have preferred a 6 speed automatic transmission with a taller overdrive to accomplish the same if not better highway fuel economy. Why can't Honda have a MPH/1000 RPM in top gear of 35-40?

2000 rpm at 75 MPH "lugging? Perhaps in the VTEC world of Honda with 7000+ redlines.

The only thing I dont get is... This VCM engine gets no better mileage than the V6s from Nissan and Toyota so I dont see the big advantage. Seems more like a gimic to make the car seem more economical to drive.

How can it be a gimmick when the Honda 5 speed gets the same mileage as the Nissan CVT and Toyota 6 speed? Wonderin' if you ever driven that Nissan CVT tranny and esperience the constant droan or the well known issues with the Toyota 6 speed.

With all due respect. it makes no difference whether the transmission is 4,5 or 6 speeds, or CVT once on the highway. It might affect city mileage.
Corvettes get better mileage on the highway than a Honda - it is the FINAL drive gearing that makes the difference. They go 80 at 2000 RPM or less! Why can't a Honda V6 cruise at 75 MPH at 2000 RPM? Someone on the Sedan and Coupe forum said Honda didn't like to "lug" its engines. 2000 RPM is lugging??? Hardly - I would consider anything under 1000 rpm lugging. Try driving an S2000 on the highway at 75 MPH - 4000 RPM in 6th gear!!!!!!!!! Insufferable.
Yeah - I think Honda needs to reevaluate its efforts to improve fuel economy - the Accord hybrid was a failure, the Insight too. And, in my opinion, the have now mucked up their fine V6 with VCM, when there are other less intrusive options.

Quick search here and google.... Not even close to the number of complaints i am seeing about Accord VCM. And both have been with us much longer and have way more transmissions on the road. For what its worth.....
I still stay Accord VCM was a Honda Marketing decision, not an engineering decision.

I wonder steevo - given the lack of success in "improving" V6 fuel economy over '07, I suspect you are right - make them appear "greener".
