I can't say for sure, but being that the clock is resetting it sounds like an electrical issue. The issue with the acceleration would normally lead me to believe that if auto transmission equipt you might have a bad torque converter, but the dead battery is pointing a different direction. Have their been any warning lights?

I don't think the 2 problems are at all related. The dealership says the clock sounds like a battery problem, but they checked and all wires are tightly connected. As for the shaking, when the car wouldn't accelerate the other day, I did get a blinking check engine light, but the dealership says the car did not save the code and they cannot find anything at all wrong with it.

Help! Electrical problems & slow turn-over by grand_am2003

I have a 2003 Grand Am. I have had several electrical problems...one by one...my fault for not addressing issues earlier.
1) Change Oil light stayed on, even after resetting after I changed oil. Eventually, it went off after a few months. Didn't replace fuse (I know, I should have).
2) Lighter outlet stopped working awhile back. Hardly used it, so didn't have it checked out.
3) Few months ago, keyless entry remote stopped working. Changed battery & it worked fine for a couple of weeks, then stopped working. Changed battery again...couldn't get it to work. I lock/unlock car manually now with key.
4) Noticed 3 days ago that when I start car, clock resets to 12:00. Around same time, I noticed car turns over slow..acts like it won't start, (like the battery is going bad) then it starts.

Before I spend loads of money at a mechanic...could use some suggestions what these problems could mean.
Electrical...battery....both?

Any help would be appreciated!

The problems I had were both related to the battery (the clock and the shaking). Not sure about in your car, but in mine, the battery is in the trunk where the spare tire is. Therefore, there are cables that run underneath the car all the way from the trunk to the engine. They were simply loose. Funny because twice I was told all battery connections were checked and are secure! But anyway, since they fixed it, I have not had a problem, so luckily that is all it was. Good luck, hope that helped.
