Although the Avalon rides smoother than the Accord I chose to go with the Accord because all of the safety features are standard as opposed to being options on the Avalon. I acquired my Accord the second week they were out, and you are correct, the dealers were not offering very good pricing. I ended paying $1100.00 of sticker price,including mark up,($500 below MSRP) so I was happy considering that most of the Honda dealers were marking up by about the $1000.00. The Toyota dealers are much more willing to negotiate and I was actually able to get an excellent price quote on the Avalon. I can't comment on the reliability of the Accord since this is my first Honda, but I am confidant with there track record. I was a loyal Toyota owner having owned a Corolla and Camry in the past. It is too bad the Toyota opted to make safety optional, if it was standard I would have kept buying Toyotas   I also like the styling an the Accord much better. Good luck on your purchase. Replying to: olid (Oct 27, 2007 6:19 pm) I too would have considered buying a Toyota Avalon or a Camry if they had made VSC standard which becomes a mandatory feature in couple of years (as far as I can recall). I ended up with a V-6 Ex Honda Accord which I take delivery today. Looking forward to driving a Honda for the first time!

Replying to: maxspa (Oct 25, 2007 9:10 pm) I could have received a very good deal on a 2007 Avalon, but was very anxious to see the new 2008 Accord, so I held off. You can't go wrong with a Honda or a Toyota, but I really needed the larger back seat that the Avalon provides for my three growing kids. I didn't drive the Accord when I saw how much smaller it was even though it is now designated as a large sedan. I ended up purchasing a 2008 Avalon Touring and couldn't be happier. We held off till the new Accord came out and fully intended to purchase the '08 sedan. I was leary of the new 6 variable cylinder. It didn't really seem to offer much more than 1 mpg better than the previous 6 cyl and the risk seemed too high for such a small increase. Although we love the looks of the new Accord, the EX 4 cyl we tested, drove and felt pretty much like 16 year old Accord except with a little less power.   Then we tested the Avalon. Now as you can expect, we're Honda fans after 16 years reliable service but after driving the Avalon, there just wasn't any comparison. You can feel it as you drive, it's effortless and when you need power it's deceptively fast. We love all the features of the Avalon Limited. It's like driving a luxury car for about the same price as a Honda.   Like I said, we fully intended to buy the new Accord but the Avalon is just so much more car for the money. Replying to: rugster (Nov 10, 2007 6:23 am) reel freak...   Thanks for the good info. I am leaning toward the Avalon... too many concerns about the V6 Accord as expressed on these forums. Drove the 190 and thought it was a too noisy particularly when accelerating.

It almost feels like a downshift by the transmission or something, I can't quite figure it out. I have seen your other post's on the Accord forum so I am aware of what you are talking about.   If I could do it again, I would definitely have gone with the Avalon. Replying to: olid (Nov 20, 2007 1:06 pm) yea sorry for the late response. I agree. I am thinking I may have gone to the Acura TL even though its smaller and not quite what I wanted. My buddy looked at the V6 Accord when I did and ended up getting the fully loaded Avalon and I bought the V6 Accord. He loves his car , smooth, nimble, nice luxury. A diff car for sure but he is glad with his decision. I am hopeful that Honda will come out with an adjustment, or a fix. I dont know why they didnt offer the V6 with a VCM override feature, In other words let me decide how "green" I want to be and when. would be nice if they amend the car with this addition. I would think a simple on off switch like a fog light switch in which you can override the computer in the car to allow you to drive on 6 cyl all the time. The car is awesome in 6 cyl mode. Btw,, I spoke to some folks at the dealership in the service dept and they felt that the VCM could probably be shut off, only issue is your check engine light would be on all the time, other than that they dont think it would cause any issues besides a reduction in fuel economy from 29 mph highway to something in line with other V6 models. Who knows I am not an engineer so not sure....
