I took my Honda in today and thought I would post some results. Over the past 5000 miles or so, my Accord has developed significant brake warping. This has happened when driving it 95% on the open highway with virtually NO brakes being applied. . . .no big brake-burning hills, no stop-and-go traffic, no nothin! Although my dealership did not indicate that they have seen brake problems on the new Accords, he did note that my brakes looked "burnt" and warped and yet showed almost no signs of actual wear at 15,000 miles. So, they agreed to replace all four rotors under warranty. I'm pleased with that! Makes me wonder if the thing was abused before I picked it up when it was "new." It only had something like 7 miles -- but, who knows what the could-give-a-shit tech or salesman did when he went to fill it with gas or gave someone a quick test drive. Anyway, also, without any abuse, my wheels had become significantly out of balance and a balance job was necessary. Unfortunately, that was not done under warranty. Apparently, the wheel weights had shifted over time. Back to being smooth-as-glass at 80mph! Because of so many highway miles, this is only my 2nd oil change at 15000 miles. Fact is, I had 9000 miles on this last oil change, but still had 30% oil life. Just couldn't wait any longer. Finally, and completely unrelated to maintenance, my Honda has definitely picked up in the speed and fuel economy. It just seems that the transmission and/or engine has loosened up over the last 2000 miles. I swear that thing just drives faster and, in any event, my fuel economy has consistently picked up 2-3 miles per gallon. Finally, with all interstate highway cruising, at 75-85 mph, I'm getting into the 30-32mpg range consistently. Those 26--27's were startin to piss me off So, all is well! Now if it just had a manual transmission, I think I would like the car |

In my post above, I did forget to mention one important thing. I asked my dealership about a potential TSB on an acceleration problem with the first-released 08 Accords. After looking, he discovered that my Accord had not received a computer update related to slow acceleration from a stop. The problem is apparently related to ignition timing. In any event, it was a problem I think I experienced one time and, hopefully, it is something that won't happen again. It is an issue that might be worth exploring on your next trip to the dealer if you have an Accord that was delivered in September / October of 2007. |

| I have had the accord v6 manual with navigation 2008 and have had problems with it popping out of 3rd gear and getting into 3rd for up to 10,000 miles and they replaced the gear box last week and then 4th gear it was popping out and it in each gear I shifted to except for 6th gear it made a whinning sound. Now they will have the car for another 4 days at the dealership which now makes six days with a rental car. Not a happy honda consumer at this time, the car looks great when its driving rather than in the dealership repair shop. | |

Replying to: buttdonkey (Dec 07, 2007 3:15 pm) How long did it take to get Honda to give you a new car when you were having problems? I have an Accord V6 manual transmission EXL with navigation and have now had the car in the shop for the second time and will have been without the car for a total of 6 days. When I got the car it never went into 3rd gear smoothly and the dealer told me the problem would go away after 10,000 miles which of course it did not and they took the car in to replace the gearbox. Then I picked the car up and had a hard time getting it into first gear which got better over a 5 day period on the 6th day there was noise each time a shifted into another gear and towards the end of day 6 it was starting to occasionaly kick out of fourth gear on its own. I barely got the car to the dealer on day 7 and now they have the car for another 4 days checking out the transmission to try to fix the problem. This is rather frustrating being without my car when it is suppose to be a precision car. I had a 1998 prelude for 45,000 miles for 3 years and never had any problems with it so I am rather bummed about Honda's 2008 Accord any suggestions when to ask for a new Honda? |

Replying to: frenchman777 (Aug 28, 2008 9:48 pm) Whatever happened with your transmission did they give you a new transmission? are you having the same problems? I had an Acura 2001 3.2 TL for 7 years and they gave me a loaner car for 1 month while they replaced the transmission at 50,000 miles. I started driving the car to work one morning and the car would not shift out of second gear to third gear. Acura then extended the warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles since they said they fixed the problem with this transmission at the time the horsepower was 225. I bought a 2008 accord coupe 6 speed manual transmission with navigation and have had the following problems. Since I have had the car for almost a year come 11/2/08 the shifting from second gear into 3rd was never the smooth est since it would sometimes kick out of 3rd gear or was hard to get into 3rd gear smoothly then last week the dealer replaced the gearbox and advised that this was a problem note in some of the manual shift accords. The day I picked up the car it worked better into 3rd gear but was at first hard to put into 1st gear and reverse but became easier overtime. By the end of the week on day number 6 when I shifted into 4th gear it would kick out of 4th gear into neutral on its own which was very unsettling along with making a whining sound from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th 5th but not 6th gear. I drove the car the next morning to the dealer and barely made it there. Wilde Honda in Waukesha had the car for two days the first time and gave me a PT Cruiser from Enterprise which I advised the dealer was a piece of junk not to mention is only 2 out of 5 on a side impact crash test (pretty unsafe) so this time I requested anything but a Chrysler and was given a Mazda 3 which is much better but now they advised they will have my car for 4 days since they have to completely take the transmission apart to find out the problem. Now each time I have had the complimentary rental car from enterprise I have had to pick up the $18 insurance to cover for loss of rental which means if someone hits me and wrecks the car and I do not have this coverage I could be charged by the rental place $2000 a month for loss of rental on the vehicle if it is in the shop for one month. So this experience of having my Honda in the shop is costing me $120 out of pocket expense which I am really not happy about. My car insurance company does not cover loss of rental on a rental vehicle and I did call to verify this. At this point this is my 3rd Honda. I had a Honda Prelude no problems 45,000 miles (5 speed manual), 3.2L Acura 75,000 miles replace transmission under warranty, and now this Accord that has been in the dealership mechanic garage for 6 days not happy about that at all. I really hope that HONDA wins my confidence back since I am beginning to lose faith in this product. Does the lemon law apply yet or does it take 4x to the dealer and 30 days without the car or will Honda eventually just give me a new Accord so I can have a better experience??? Please respond when you have a free minute. |

For much of my life I drove 75 to 100K miles a year and bought at least one new car each year with some years buying 2 new cars. I purchased everything from Acura to VW and as fate would have it bought a few lemons along the way. Although there was a "Lemon Law" I never had to use it. That said however I've had a few that they "bought back" before the Lemon Law kicked in. Still a very painful experience. My advice to you is to let your dealer know how you feel. Let him know you are willing to work with him but there may come a time when it stops being a normal frustrating experience and turns into a nightmare. It's the nightmare you are trying to avoid. Usually the dealer will work with you if he feels you are being realistic and not jumping off the cliff over a low tire or some such. Ask him what's the procedure and let him know how you feel. You need him to want to help you. A week without your car won't do it. Also it depends greatly on just what the defect is. Safety related defects get their attention much faster. I would think that a tranny jumping out of gear would be safety related.

Replying to: sky16 (Oct 01, 2008 4:23 pm) A "TSB" is a "technical service bulletin." TSBs are posted to all Honda dealerships. They are NOT recalls, but generally identify common problems that a car company is seeing across an entire vehicle model. There are some places on the web where you can find a list of TSBs for certain models of cars - although they aren't generally released on any public database (that I know of). If you come in with a complaint on a car, the dealership often first goes to the TSBs to see if it is a common problem to which the manufacturer has identified a solution. It could be anything from a rattling door panel to an engine tuning issue. I think it never hurts to ask your dealer about recent TSBs and specifically ask them to check your car. When I mentioned the TSB for slow acceleration to my dealer, he looked at me kind of annoyed and told me that all new Hondas had received the engine timing fix before being sold. Of course, later, he admitted that mine had "some how" not received that update. The squeeky wheel gets the greese!

Does anyone know of a class-action lawsuit against Honda for their cheap paint job on the 1998 - 2002 accord models? I've noticed with all dark colored accords for those years are oxidizing on the roofs and trunks -- mine as well. I have to keep my car for a couple of more years, and I really didn't want to repaint it, but it looks horrible.
