Thank you for the info and I'll give the Thousand Oaks, Ca dealship one more try. I will call Honda Customer Service and document it anyways and get their take on it.This is our 5th Honda including my Del Sol.

Have you tried switching back to non-synthetic oil to see how it affects your oil consumption? My first thought is you did your first oil change a bit early.

I don't see anything in the owner's manual that says when to change your oil except for the oil life indicator and even that is very vague.

For new Honda's, follow the maintenance minder. It's not set to remind you at specific mileage points, but based on your driving style. This is also stated in the owner's manual. Once the oil life gets down to 20%, then it will go down in 5% increments and will start "reminding" you service is required every time you start up. It's pretty simple and you don't have to think about it until it indicates it's time for service.

Everything posted by jhinsc is correct. In addition, it will alert you when it is time to change things such as air filters and other maintenance items.

I have the same Rattle issue on my 2008 Accord EX-L V6. I was planning on talking to my dealer next time I take it for oil Change.

The V6 in my 2008 Accord has started burning oil as well. The Honda dealer suggested that we change the oil more frequently and ignore the maintenance minder. First car I've had in 25 years that burns oil. The mechanic that changed the oil said that off-the-record, the VCM engines are starting to have problems with burning oil.

I have almost 21,000 miles on my 08 V6 and except for adding a quart before the first oil change, my oil consumption is now the same as my previous 06 V6. My 06 would be down about 1/2 quart when due for oil change. With the 08, I noted when the oil got to the add mark at the 5,000 mile mark, I noticed the VCM wouldn't kick in like it used to. Once I added a quart, it went back to it's normal operation. So it appears the VCM operates by electronics and oil pressure, but not 100% sure.

My dealer recommends the same - they aways have. I've always ignored dealer's "advice" and follow the manufacturers rec's, no matter what brand I was driving. My Chev Avalanche with similar VCM and about 50k miles goes about 13k miles between oil changes and it doesn't burn enough oil in-between changes to add more.
