I have an 2000 ML 430 and my rear break lights are stuck on even when I'm not pressing on the brakes. I've checked the fuse and the white switch near the top of the break pedal. I'm assuming it works b/c it makes a sound when I press the switch, as if it's unlocking the gear shift. any ideas of what is going on with the car? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!!

Most likely the brake light switch is either out of adjustment or may be bad. Look at the switch to see if the button or stem of the switch is making contact with the brake pedal arm. If you push the brake pedal down , the switch button should come out. When the pedal comes up , it contacts the stem or button of the switch and turns the lights out.
