A Lap of the Nurburgring in the 2009 Nissan GT-R - One of the primary performance objectives set forth by the Nissan GT-R's development team is to lap the Nürburgring's Nordschleife faster than a 997-based Porsche 911 Turbo. The 2009 Nissan GT-R had circled the famed circuit in 7 minutes and 55 seconds during endurance testing earlier in the year, trailing the 911 Turbo by 15 seconds. (more)

The 911 turbo also uses a quick shifting dual clutch gearbox, all wheel drive and weighs some 350lbs less and gets whooped by the ZO6 baddly(car and driver 9/06 sports car world cup)not to mention that it spanked a ferrari f430 hard, a car that also uses a quick shifting gearbox that shifts 100milliseconds or less. If the ZO6 could embarrass a work of art like the ferrari f430, a car that has a true racing pedigree just think what it would do to that bloated overweight jap mobile. The GT-R may have a quick shifting gearbox and all wheel drive but it needs it to move around the nearly 2 tons of car. The ZO6 makes up for the lack of all wheel drive with one of the lowest power to weight ratio in the production car world. The ZO6 may not have all wheel drive but than again it doesn't need it, the ZO6 weighs 650lbs less with wider tires. Not to mention how bad it outperformed the $106,860-$121,559 911 GT3 at VIR on a 4.2 mile track by 3.6 secs. another car with racing pedigree that is set up strictly for track duty and destroyed the 911 turbo by 7.6 secs. a $123,760-$141,510 car. The ZO6 has already showed that it will get in there with cars that cost more than double its price and destroy the competiton by a huge margin, so until the bloat-mobile whoops a Lambourghini, Ferrari or a Porsche, competition that already learned it's lesson by suffering at the tires of the ZO6, the GT-R has a lot to prove.

If I'm not mistaken, and I don't think I am, the Tiptronic S in the 911 Turbo isn't a dual clutch gearbox. 2. The 911 Turbo in the test you're writing about used a six speed manual. The 911 turbo with the Tiptronic S has quicker acceleration than the 911 turbo with the six speed manual. 3. Seeing as how the vette placed last in the "Sport Car World Cup" it can hardly be said to have embarrassed the other cars in the competition.

Blah Blah Blah, all I am hearing is from all american muscle car guys can't seems to accept new challenges. yes Chev. 350ci motor is best motor ever created. So suprised that its not at 100hp/liter. Oh, yes we all live in perfect weather all the time, yes yes, let see how u talk smack when it''s raining outside.. see who can perform better in the wet or dry for that matter. Or should I say when u try to seat 4? anyways, the new gadjets that comes with this car (GT-R) is simply incredible, Let me put it this way, the last gen GT-R (R34) was discontinued since 2001. Nissan took almost 7yrs to perfect this GT-R. And not only by its performance, also by it's everyday livablity. Not too mention that this car is gonna tobe sold worldwide! I don't see Vette or Viper being sold worldwide? Oh, thats right there's actually other country exist. And they actually rate the insurance/registration fees (bigger displacement cost more) based on displacement of the engine. So thats why the rest of the world don't make engine the size of texas. The exact words printed by Mark Gillies are as followed( On paper, the ZO6 is the best car here. It accelerates as fast as the 911 turbo and wastes both the Porsche and the Ferrari above 120mph. How about 0-150 in 17.7 secs? Thats up there in Ford GT territory, if not as stupid fast as the Mclaren F1. On the Autobhan it was still accelerating while the FERRARI was topped at 186 in 6th gear) . We're talking about performance here nothing else. And in performance is where it WHOOPED not only the FERRARI but the PORSCHE, the proof is in the print which is not my own opinion, it's fact proven by the editors of the magazines. You are right about one thing, the Porsche doesn't have a dual clutch set up. Now please come up with some proof that a 911 turbo, GT3 or a Ferrari F430 with out perform a ZO6, after all there are performance cars not luxury cars and performance is what counts. Keep in mind that a Z51 Vette beat a 911 Turbo by 2.2 secs. which was also proven in the Lightening Lap at VIR August 2007 edition. Isn't EMBARRASSING HAVING A $50,000 car WHOOPING a $130,000 car. Once again the Vettes performance has already been proven, not only on the street but also in the AMLS winning 6 out of the 7 years that it has been participating which is much more than I can say for the Nissan GT-R. Replying to: master2 (Jan 15, 2008 4:44 pm) For your information the Vette has been sold over in Europe for the last 2 or 3 years now that is the reason for the size reduction that was done with the 2005 C6, so do some research before you speak. Talking about everday livability, the Vette has the most trunk space and best gas milage of ANY HIGH PERFORMANCE VEHICLE IN PRODUCTION, let me know when the Ferrari, Porsche or GT-R get exempt from the gas guzzler tax. And European manufacturers do make big cubic inch motors, have you ever heard of AMG. Ferrari and Porsche don't need cubic inches, they either make up for it with turbos or with the number of cylinders. Yes, the 350ci motor can be concidered the best motor ever built. It has nothing to do with being a muscle car guy or a rice burner lover, the fact is that the small block 350 is the longest production motor ever produced which means its durability has been proven over and over again which is more than be said for any Jap sports car that are either slow as hell and severely underpowered(RX-8) or just plain get discontinued after only few years(Supra,NXS). If I wanted 4 seats I would go and purchase a Cadillac. I have seen and driven Vettes in the rain and they handle perfect, now if you are going to RACE in the rain you deserve to go head first into tree or off an embankment somewhere. Someone else may like the Nurburgring lap times because that tells them what they want to believe. None of that changes the fact that the performance of the GT-R in this test seems to show that it's all that Nissan promised it would be. And remember, this test was performed on what Edmunds call a "less-than-ideal surface". I've always thought that Edmund's numbers for the Z06 didn't do the car justice. But the fact the you and a lot of other vette guys are getting your panties in a twist over this article shows that you're wondering if the GT-R might be a true contender. Even to the point of some of you suggesting that Edmunds is fudging their numbers. Maybe it's C&D that's fudging. That kind of speculation is a slippery slope.

Are the Vents (Behind front wheel well and hood) on the 09 GT-R functional? I guess for 70K they have to at least be real? If they don't have much use that is fine, but is the hole really there?
