You are in the Nissan GT-R Forum. Your Host is claires
First Look: 2009 Nissan GT-R - Due for its much-anticipated unveiling at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show, the 2009 Nissan GT-R will finally arrive in the U.S. next spring. Nothing will ever be the same again. (more)
A Lap of the Nurburgring in the 2009 Nissan GT-R - One of the primary performance objectives set forth by the Nissan GT-R's development team is to lap the Nürburgring's Nordschleife faster than a 997-based Porsche 911 Turbo. The 2009 Nissan GT-R had circled the famed circuit in 7 minutes and 55 seconds during endurance testing earlier in the year, trailing the 911 Turbo by 15 seconds. (more)
First Drive: 2009 Nissan GT-R (JDM Spec) - Unlike most supercars, the GT-R doesn't sit only 2 inches off the ground, so it's easy to slide into the driver seat. This is a Japanese-market car, so we're on the right-hand side, which makes everything feel awkward. The seat is firm and narrow, and the high center console gives the cabin a tight, cockpit-style feel. (more)
Full Test: 2009 Nissan GT-R (Japanese-Spec) - We know you want the numbers and we're not going to waste your time. Neither is Nissan. Its 2009 GT-R hits 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, quicker than the last Dodge Viper, Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo we tested. (more)
Full Test: 2009 Nissan GT-R - Bottom Line:The GT-R delivers a rare combination of speed, agility and technological sophistication. It's a bit of a cold fish, but for $76K, we'll deal. (more)

I have spent a tiring few weeks attempting to fend off the relentless waves of bull that have been put to me either directly or via web pages, in regards to the legitimacy of the record lap in the GT-R(which was recorded on video by Nissan!). Everything from claims of slick tires, increased boost, a different car being used (Porsche and Z06 no less) and even that the video may not be real but a computer generated virtual lap. You know i heard a saying just this morning and I'm not sure where it's from; "Lies can travel half way around the world before the truth even puts it boots on". Once again, thanks for finally putting Truth's boots on You have to under stand people are passionate about being prejuduce they will lie and cheat lol they are nuts This car is not only better than the rest it is a new league of car the porsche is old and no longer competative you can by a new league GTR and a nissian murano and still collect change for what they rip you off for a porche the US dollar is down 40% the last 4 years so the proscche has priced itself out of contention only people goning to buy a porsche over this are mis informed toadies that dont see themselves as being ripped so they bend over euro style to get another dose this car has traction you can have all the HP you want and still wont beat this car at the track or off because it isnt about power anymore it is about traction Using an engine that has won the most best engine awards ever 10 best engines award VQ engines from Nissan modular designed engine in this case bored to 3.8 twin turbo that you have to know is good for nearly 1000 hp with 18PSI a flick of the switch with the nismo kit no doubt This is the best of the best the rest will have to go back to the drawing boards and make more efforts most will not be capable of this fine an automobile Nissan has lomg been the leader in making cars the sportyist in the class for this car they had to invent another class the one that was in place when they arrived on the scene was too under performinh ! |

Dear Nissan: Please add a button that I can push labeled "Launch Control" so I can throw away the long checklist when a Corvette owner pulls up to me at a stop light. Thanks! |

That Engine would have to be at full power with afterburners from the get go to propell all that mass at such velocity in such a short time The cars you are comparing to are 2 wheel drive only for one thing and also you under estimate Nissan's top tier engineering at any rate the vette and viper are simply out classed on or off the track like most people you tend to think its all about hp well its not about hp when you get in the class of car traction is the main thing not power they all have plenty of power getting that power turned into motion is another matter vette and viper are over powered and under brained the Porsche is the benchmark that benchmark has been trampled on not enough perhaps to embarrass Porsche but enough to send them all back to the drawing board I wonder how much weight the awd system is on this car

Ever since the barrage of staged "spy" photos, Edmunds has outdone itself fawning over this car. Isn't anyone else sick of reading about it?

When did 0-60 become a benchmark? "Man, that car stomped me in the 0-60!!!" hahahahaha The fact is, all the Nissan lovers are comparing an all wheel drive car to a rear wheel drive car (Z06), and a naturally aspirated car to a forced induction car. Not exactly apples to apples, and the GTR still comes up short. Why is it that the GTR out runs the Z06 in 0-60, but not the 1/4 mile (according to Motor Trend and Dragtimes slips)? The answer is simple, because the Z06 is a performance car that makes horsepower throughout the entire powerband, and the GTR falls flat on its face between gears waiting for those turbo’s to spool up, not to mention the power/weight ratio comparison. So, go buy a $80,000 ricer, and I will stick with a $70,000 American made muscle car. In addition, with a pair of street legal slicks on a Z06, I will embarrass you on the track and the road course. There is one advantage to the GTR, any high school kid or soccer mom can drive one to its full potential because it does not require a mental giant to launch an AWD car, so the lack of real driving/racing experience is not an issue. However, the GTR has a 25% parasitic drivetrain loss that you can do nothing to improve, and the Z06 is in the 15% range, with lots of options to improve traction without sacrificing horsepower to the wheels…
