It's just the 2007 V6 that was below average in reliability, so that model is not recommended (and by extension, neither is the 2008 V6 recommended.) The 2007 4-cylinder was above average and is still recommended. Remember that the 4-cylinder takes the lion's share of sales.

Yeah, heard they dropped the v6 that is odd, I mean they usually don't go into detail like that.

I always thought the v6 got the lions share. I was always the odd guy out buying the v4 at least I thought I was.

Reported to me that 75% of Camry sales are 4 cylinder models.

That's right, and it's been the same over the last decade or so.

Just an observation... by gotoyota

I was very anxious to ride in my co-workers brand new 2008 Fusion SEL V6 a couple days ago, considering that Ford has been moving up the ranks while Toyota has been cut down a couple notches. So I thought I would post my observations here and see what you all think.

First, the Fusion is overall a nice car. Nice ride, solid, decent looking (subjective)... But all I could think about was why can't they match up all of the interior plastics? The airbag cover was completely different from the rest of the dash. There was flashing present on many of the edges, especially around the door pulls. Most of the panels fit well enough, but I noted a few that did not line up at all. The interior also felt rubbery. The Camrys I have been in have been very rich looking, with exceptional finish and nothing amiss. It's a tragedy that Toyota's 6 speed is having issues - it seems like it's being exploited as a way to kick them while they are down. The Fusion is far and away a lesser car than the Camry and it was irksome to see what it's really like after hearing all of the gloating about Ford getting better initial quality ratings than Toyota.

I am in the market for a new car and really want the Camry V6 SE - bad. But the tranny problem has me in a holding pattern. I might end up with something else - an Acura maybe... I don't know, but the Camry is my first choice if I was confident the tranny wouldn't break. So disappointed. We have an 07 Sienna XLE ltd and we love it. I would love that engine in a car that weighs 1000 lbs less!

No I haven't, not yet at least. Do you have experience with one or do you own one? I don't know, I am just excited about the V6 SE. The Hybrid is cool, but the V6 will do 0-60 in 5.8 seconds (Car and Driver, Feb 07) and still returns about 30 mpg on the highway. If it's like our Sienna, it will do better than the rated mpg.

It's probably a childish thing, I just want the horsepower! I really love the 3.5L.

So does anyone know what Toyota is doing about the 6 speed tranny issues? It's breaking my heart I just can't get myself to buy a car if I know the tranny is likely to break, and it doesn't sound like this is isolated to a few early models, but an ongoing problem. I currently drive a 97 Maxima with over 200k on it and we still have our 2004 Odyssey EXL-RES (replaced with the Sienna, thinking it would be easy to sell ) with registration due this month, I am not willing to pay to register it and wait patiently for a buyer that will offer me close to book value. I am probably going to trade it in for a new car for myself before the end of the month. The one I WANT is the Camry SE V6. It's losing points because of the CR ratings. So I am also considering the Accord V6, Acura TL, Infiniti G35, Altima SE, Maxima SE.... They are all nice, I just can't get that excited about any of them because I've had my heart set on the Camry SE since the new model came out. Even with an extended warranty, that's just a bandaid on a wound that isn't healing.

Plan B is to buy something used so as to get rid of my Ody but avoid paying all of the depreciation on a car I don't want to keep very long, and drive it for a year or two, giving Toyota time to work out the bugs with the 6 speed, and then get the Camry?

Yes,I have the 2007 anniversary edition. I don't want to overpraise the car,but I will say, it is worth a test drive. If you decide to test it, push it a little. I think you have a surprise comming. Also be sure to take note of the no shift CVT transmission. The rest is up to you. Good hunting.
